10 week old screams constantly, I've gone cold to it

My 10 week old has cried pretty much non stop since being born
He's on cows milk protein free milk (neonate) and had his tongue tie sorted.
Has gripe water, infacol, calpol when he seems in pain, nothing helps.
I will admit I don't feel anything anymore when he cries which is a horrible feeling. But I have a 2 year old who has been completely pushed aside for 2 months and I'm can't do it anymore

Been to osteopath multiple times

I've been w nanny for over 15 years and never seen anything quite like this.

Any words of advice very welcome

I don't have any words of wisdom other than I've been there and they do outgrow it gradually. My eldest cried for basically the first 9 months of their life, had no medical problems, just a very intense and emotional personality. At 6 they are still like that, but obviously they don't scream all the time anymore! Hang in there. I used to rely on pram for most naps for both my kids as babies and eldest also liked napping in the baby carrier on walks with DH.

Has is been the same amount of crying throughout or did it ramp up to a peak? If it's colic, weeks 6-10 tend to be the worst, so fingers crossed you've done the hardest yards now and some respite is in the way.

Try him on reflux meds. My baby screamed 16 hours a day and it was until we had neocate and losec together that he finally stopped. Baby doesn't have to be throwing up to have reflux , it can be silent.

How long has he been on the Neocate? It can take weeks for their stomachs to settle with CMPA.
I’ve been there. My ds had milk egg and soy allergy. First 4 months all they did was cry and cry and cry. He’s now 2 and is a delight.
it’s hard in the trenches. Do what you need to survive. Xx

I'm really sorry you and your baby are going through this. I'd suggest looking into reflux (including silent reflux) to see if the symptoms sound familiar to you. My DS has reflux and omeprazole has helped, as has seeing an allergist. I totally understand switching off to the crying. I think going numb to it and just going through the motions is just you going into survival mode. Eventually this will pass. You're doing great.

reflux? Film the crying and show the GP.

Idunno8 · 20/06/2024 15:30

I had this with my second, she had a milk/soya/ gluten/wheat allergies and silent reflux. She screamed for the first 18 months of her life. She grew out of it but it nearly broke me, she’s so wonderful now. Major hand hold, hang in there. X

I can really empathise, I'm so so sorry
My second baby was like this (now 5 months old)
Also on neocate but we really noticed the difference when started on omeprazole

My toddler has also been pushed aside. It's so so hard I'm so sorry. It does get better
Film the crying episodes and show to doctor

Would echo others who have said reflux - we've just been prescribed omeprazole and have a totally different baby now, worth a look into (if you haven't already)

This was my daughter. Severe silent reflux and multiple allergies. She eventually went on to alfamino when I stopped breastfeeding. She couldn't have neocate as it contains coconut which she was allergic to.
For the reflux she needed 3mg/kg omperazole to have any effect at all, as much gaviscon as we could get in her and domperidone.
If you have been on neocate for more than 4 weeks and have explored reflux I would ask to try alfamino. If you haven't explored reflux do that. It's not always a symptom of allergies it can be a problem in its own right. My daughter is nearly 4 and hasn't outgrown her reflux or allergies and despite having 20 food allergies it is the reflux that causes us bigger problems. She's under 2 paediatricians for it and has the have fluoride treatment on her teeth every 3 months to protect her teeth from acid damage
