Double pram help please. Mountain buggy duet or Out N About Nipper Double V5?!

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right section to post my query but has anyone owned either of the above double prams, and if so, can you please share your thoughts?

I have a 28 month old DD and a 2 week old DS. I have held off purchasing a double pram as I was ideally hoping to just use a buggy board and avoid. However, DD often refuses to hold my hand and will often try to run away, so a double pram is definitely required just to contain her where necessary at times!

DD is small and petite. Hoping pram will last another year or so? Money not really an issue, but I have narrowed double pram choices down to either the Mountain buggy duet or the Out N About Nipper Double V5.

Please can anyone advise of their experiences if they have owned either or both prams and pros/ cons? I like that the Duet is more narrow, and I’m not sure if it’s just the pictures but the chairs in the Out N About seem to be really reclined?

Thanks in advance!

Hi I had a similar age gap & wanted a double buggy as I found my 2 year old still needed a seat. My research led me to both prams you mentioned- the out n about was lovely but quite small seat back & my toddler was tall for her age so I was recommended the Mountain buggy as it had the highest seat back of the double buggies.

I didn't end up purchasing one as it was then lockdown (baby born just before covid) eventually I got the buggy board with the saddle as she was that much older it worked better for us further down the line.

But just wanted to let you know about the seat height issue.

Not what you asked but the baby jogger city mini twin is fab. The seats are big and the sunshade which was helpful for getting Dts to sleep (and keeping the sun off!).

I have a Mountain Buggy duet and my quite tall 3-year-old boy fits in it just fine. The seats are a little bit reclined but it doesn't seem to be a problem (I think you can get straps separately, not official MB ones, that pull them up a bit if it bothers you). It's handy being so narrow as you can get it through internal doorways and onto trains, which might be an advantage over the out n about one.

Possibly not an issue if your daughter is petite anyway, but just to mention that the max weight limit per seat is 18kg for the duet vs 22kg for the out n about.

Mountain buggy duet. 100%
I was a childminder for over thirty years and had numerous buggies, this is definitely the best double.

I have out n about double and I love it. Saved my sanity. I didn't think I needed a double but it has been a good friend to me. My 4.5 year old will still hop in it if needed even now on a super long or fast hike (in future we will be checking what time the car park closes before we're at the furthest point away) and he was pretty comfy, although he's a slim Jim!

It will fit through doorways, it will handle all terrain, they both slept in it, it fits a reasonable amount of shopping

To be fair though I never tried any other double (and not do I intend to unless I have surprise twins! 😅)

Thanks all, ended up going for the mountain buggy in the end!

The right decision, tried and tested, I bought the mountain buggy twenty one years ago, they were a new import then, from NZ, brilliant buggy, must have covered miles with it. I paid a lot of money then about £500+ with rain cover. More than we intended on spending, DH said it’s going to be hard with two under two, buy the best buggy you can get. No regrets, it was a brilliant buggy, so easy to push.

@Ironicallure were you pleased with your decision? I have the same age gap coming up in June. We currently have a bugaboo Fox 3 for DD1 and she still naps in it and sits in it a lot. When DD2 arrives she will be 28 months and I am certain we will need a double. I’m at the same point in decision making re Mountain Buggy vs Out n about. Thoughts welcome!

Hi @Zad22 , so I do really like the Mountain Buggy Duet, I ended up getting one secondhand from Facebook marketplace for £200, which came with so many extras it was such a bargain! The only downside is that the bassinet is so narrow, that my baby was far too big for it at around 3 months! And he really wasn’t a big baby whatsoever! I know the normal seats have a recline function so that you can lie them flat which is safe for a baby. We still use the double pram sometimes now, perhaps if we are going on a long walk but it does take up so much room in the car boot, and we have a big boot space! We were going on holiday and we simply just couldn’t fit it in, so I ended up purchasing a buggy board (without the saddle) for the single pram we had and my little one was ok on it. We now normally tend to just use that for smaller trips out as it’s a lot easier, but my little girl doesn’t nap anymore. If she still did we would probably use the double more often and just get a car roof box if we were going on holiday and needed the space.

If you don’t mind purchasing secondhand, I’d definitely have a look around as there are some great offers about. The double pram was definitely a life saver for me in those first few months though, when my little girl most definitely could not be trusted to walk nicely or stay on the buggy board! It also has a good resale value too!
