Nursery Schedule - 15 month old - 2 naps?

Hello! For background, I am a SAHM and my daughter won’t be going to nursery until she is around 2.5. A lot of my friends with 15 month olds have their children adjusted to nursery schedule so one long nap in the day. However, my daughter at home still prefers two. Around a 45 mins in the morning and 1 hour in the late afternoon. She is happy with this and so are we! But at what age should they transition to one nap? She seems happy but is one of the few from my friendship group to take two so slightly worried it’s not normal?

Both of mine were doing around 1.5 hours in the afternoon by 15 months. It suited us as we were out most mornings then they'd have lunch and a good nap.

Thank you. It suits us to have two naps a day with our schedule :)

If 2 naps suits you and you're not planning on sending her to nursery any time soon, then why does it matter what others are doing? Confused

DD went down to 1 nap at about 19 months or so I think.

She was 16 months old when the Covid lockdowns hit and she was still on two at that point. She transitioned to one when she went back to nursery after the lockdown lifted.

Her nursery were happy to accommodate one or two naps a day with the little ones, depending on what they needed.

They're all different.
Both mine dropped all naps at 18 months.
Do what suits you both.

Thank you everyone! It’s because I keep getting comments that she still is on 2 but also she doesn’t yet talk or walk so had a few comments that maybe she’s sleeping too much to learn these new skills!!

That’s bollocks. Sleep helps brain development…

Do what suits you all, honestly. Sleep is one of those things that varies massively and you’ll drive yourself mad if you’re too focused on what other people are doing or thinking.

If she's having a sleep cycle in the morning and another sleep cycle in the afternoon. That's no difference than what most of her peers will be doing which is two full sleep cycles in the afternoon.

Very bizarre thing to say to you.

If she's not walking or talking yet, how did she do in her 12 month check?

Caterina99 · 18/06/2024 09:06

I was a sahm and pretty sure both of mine moved over to one nap about 13-15 months. That seemed to be about average in my (completely unscientific sample) group of sahm friends.

All babies are different though and if 2 naps works for your baby and your routine then do what works for you. It certainly won’t be hindering her development!

When the first nap gets later or very long

I agree! The check just said to monitor, as she is pulling up and babbling. And if no progress by 18m to return!

Thank you. She’s my first born so I’m nervous about what she should/shouldn’t be doing so your comment helped a lot, thank you!

Yep. It’s mainly from two people whose children are full time nursery and on one nap. They claim because they only nap once a day and have all this stimulation and learning at nursery that’s why they’re ahead of her!!

LemonCitron · 18/06/2024 09:18

Ignore them. They are talking rubbish, and also it sounds like they're not very nice people.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 18/06/2024 09:24

Just remember they have to convince themselves of that as they may feel some guilt about their children being in full time nursery and wonder whether they should be a sahm like you. I'm the best of both worlds being a part time worker so I see both sides!
