Dog walk with baby/toddler

Baby/dog mamas how do you do it?
Currently I walk my dog with my baby daughter (dd) in a sling ( or baby carrier). It works perfectly. Dd has her morning nap then I turn her round when she wakes and she enjoys the great outdoors.
People keep telling me that DD is too big for the sling at nearly 12 months old (personally, I think she has a while yet but the time will surely come!)
I just don't see how a buggy would ever work. My big buggy would handle the terrain but not get through the narrow footpaths and vice versa with my travel buggy.
When I've tried taking the buggy on a street walk with the dog on the lead she wants to weave from side to side and ends up getting tangled. Same if I use my running lead around my waist. I don't want to attach the dog lead to the buggy in case she sees a squirrel and goes charging off!

How do other mums do it? I don't seem to see any That bit older than her out and about.

thank you for all of the suggestions. I'm so glad that so many people still use either sling or carrier as it definitely my preferred method.
Good list if carrier options to check out.

Why don't people train their dogs to walk properly without pulling. If you have to use a sling or a carrier when your child is too heavy you are risking life time back problems. Just train your dog properly. Or don't take them out at the same time.

You're doing great! Maybe try a combination of using a baby backpack carrier and a hands-free leash that attaches to your waist. This keeps your hands free for better control and navigation, ensuring both your baby and dog are safe and comfortable.

It really depends on your dog. My older one was nervous and would bark and pull if people came too close. My younger one is quite chilled. With our older one I couldn’t walk the two of them with the buggy but could with a carrier. We lost the older one just before DD was born and then I could manage with a buggy. The buggy helps when you need to poo pick as at least the baby isn’t strapped to you getting on the way a little bit 😆

I don’t know what type of sling you have but a structured carrier that allows a piggyback type carry is great once they are older. I can still carry my 21kg 7 year old in ours! Or a ‘hiking’ type back carrier works too. Once they get bigger and can walk a bit it’s easier. My DD is 3 and loves to help walk the dogs now. As for people saying baby is too big at 12 months for sling, ignore them! We still carry our 3 year old in our structured carrier when her legs get tired on days out. There are carrier designed for up to 30kg.

I just thought I should post a little update as sometimes I know I search for old post to find advice.
I'm currently hiring a little frog carrier from the sling library and it's fantastic. Might not be the most comfortable so maybe I'll try some different ones. But. She actually sleeps Absolutely fine in the backpack mode. It's much more comfortable than wearing her on the front ( But of course I've just returned to my desk job and getting back ache anyway hahahaha oh dear)
So I've had it a few weeks and I think the last couple of days she is considering dropping her morning nap but she will quite happily sit in the backpack awake anyway. Thank you so much everyone who advised. The solution was much simpler than I thought!
