Playing with poo?

I am fast running out of patience with this.
DS did this for a while around one year old then stopped, he is now almost 2.5.

Recently he has been reaching into his nappy at night and playing with it. He made the transition from cot to bed pretty well but when he gets up and has a dirty nappy he starts to play with it. The worst occasion was when he had smeared it across the walls and all over lots of toys.

I hope I am not alone with this, it is becoming a nightmare to have to clean his sheets and toys everytime he does it, let alone the rest!

Do you have any advice on what we can do?

We have tried potty training but he doesn't grasp it, and I am loathe to try while he is behaving like this.

I hadn't a clue either. It's not really soemthing people give you advice on is it? I remember being mortified when she did it at creche one day, but they were great, cleaned her up and barely said anything about it except to say this is something some children do.

my sister asked me about this the other day, her daughter is going to be 3 in just over a month, is potty trained in the day, but if she puts her up for asleep, or her dd poos early in morning/ during the night. she has started painting pretty patterns with it!
she asked for my advice, but i luckily havent had this with my 2 (ds is 9 dd is almost2) please dont let it be coming soon

any advice on how to get her dd to stop?

My DD1 did this when she was about 20mths. We put her in a sleepsuit with the buttons at the back and sewn up (over the poppers) from the legs as high up as we could and get it her into it, so there was no way she could get out of it by herself.

We kept her in it until she stopped doing poos during the night. Actually, it was probably a bit longer than that just to make sure and to make sure the behavioural pattern was well and truly broken.

The sleepsuit worked a treat and the smearing has never happened again (touch wood). She's now 2.7yrs.
