Toddler asleep with high temp- should i wake to give calpol

Toddler has had fever all day and been managing it with calpol. Hasn't seemed too "unwell" just a cough and temp of 38.

She is now asleep. just went in to check and her temp is 38. Should I leave her or wake and give calpol to bring it down???

Leave her to sleep. I would only give Calpol once hitting the 40s unless DD needs pain relief from other symptoms. A fever is an important part of the bodys immune response and is there for a reason.

Thankyou so much x

I would leave her. 38 isn't to high and sleeping will help her fight the bug

I wouldn't wake her. I'd keep an eye on her and check the temperature periodically. How many does of Calpol has she had?

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 10/06/2024 20:29

No, sleep is the best thing for her. A temperature is your bodies mechanism for fighting the virus, it's a good thing unless the temperature gets too high and 38 is only a mild fever.

Keep calpol on standby for if she wakes up and is uncomfortable, but otherwise just let her rest.

AmelieTaylor · 10/06/2024 20:31

Personally I wouldn't. Sleep is the most important thing to heal their little bodies. I would be very near her & constantly checking her temperature though. If it got to 39° I would wake her. Also keep her lightly covered, her body will heat up more if she gets chilly.

i hope she wakes up feeling much much better. The good thing is they bounce back so quickly xx

1ml, twice today. She's 22 months.

Thankyou. She is in her own room across the landing. Monitor on loudest setting next to me.

Do you think I should be sleeping in her room tonight?

Maybe a typo op? She can have 5ml 4 times a day. Hope she feels better soon

Check you bottle for dosage 1ml doesn't sound right for infant calpol.

Treetertop · 10/06/2024 20:59

Why are you only giving 1ml of Calpol as a dose? Is that a typo, one?

lipglossandmascara · 10/06/2024 21:02

The pharmacist advised 1ml of this products.

I live so it's not actually calpol it's a similar brand. She said 1ml and check temp after 30 mins. If it's still high give another ml

Let her sleep. Then once awake give calpol

btw, 1ml is very low. Check again with someone else.

Check the dosage on the box and bottle of the medicine!

WhyamInotvomiting · 10/06/2024 23:16

I wouldn't wake her to give paracetamol, however if she was wakes for any reason and still has a temp I would give it then. The paracetamol for a fever is symptom management to make her feel comfortable.

Nottherealslimshady · 10/06/2024 23:24

My DS is prone to seizures, temperature control is top priority here so I would absolutely wake/dream feed calpol.

Also, remove covers and fan with a book. I barely sleep when DS is running a fever.

maw1681 · 10/06/2024 23:27

No I wouldn't, let her sleep and make sure her room isn't too warm

CJ0374 · 10/06/2024 23:39

I don't know what country you are in, but in the UK and some other countries, paracetamol is available as a suppository form from the pharmacy. Handy if you child has vomiting and can't keep paracetamol down, and also quicker than waking a child to given them it orally when needed.
