Chickenpox advice

Looking for some advice really as DS has developed spots on his feet and groin this morning. We’re sure it’s the start of chickenpox as he’s been in contact with it at nursery earlier in the week.
Any advice? He’s our first and is 15 months old so any recommendations would be appreciated x

Firstly also very likely to be hand foot and mouth as that is on the feet.

Neither chicken pox nor hand foot and mouth were that bad for my kids. Paracetamol, soothing lotion. I did try oat baths - lukewarm water. TLC. And stay home till the spots crust fir cpox and rill they feel better for hf&m.

I thought it generally started on their torso?
If it is chicken pox Virasoothe was the only thing that helped mine

Sorry also wanted to say - there are a lot of non-specific rashes around at the moment....allergy or virus related.
Also with a teeny - could be heat rash.

Whatever hope he's OK.

Also chicken pox is approx 2 weeks from coming into contact, so may well be something else as a PP suggested

Agree with others, could be hand foot and mouth or a viral rash. If it is chicken pox, don't give ibuprofen. I used head and shoulders in the bath for mine and it worked a treat. Mittens/socks on hands to stop scratching x

Solidarity... my dd has this too including in her private parts.shes really suffering and we're all miserable.

Just been to the pharmacist and he's given me nothing! Said we're already doing everything we can.

Calamine lotion on the body spots
Vaseline on the private parts spots
Piriton and calpol as often as dosage allows
Oatmeal and baking soda in the bath
Pouring cold water over her groin after a wee

Can anyone else suggest anything?

I'm at my wits' end. She's so unhappy

CP is 10-21 days incubation so unlikely to be caught from someone met earlier this week.
IME it's usually 2 weeks to the day that spots appear.
First spots are usually on the torso, and spread from there.
Quite likely to be something else.

It's wise to get confirmation from a doctor about the spots, especially since chickenpox can be more serious in young children. Call your pediatrician and explain the situation. Mention his age and recent contact with chickenpox. They can advise on the next steps and proper care for your son's comfort.

Sounds like it could well be hand foot and mouth. We are having a second bout of it at the moment. Have you checked inside mouth for ulcers/blisters? Ours started around nappy area, feet, then spread to hands and ulcers in mouth and tongue.

mammabing · 08/06/2024 14:05

Definitely looking more like chickenpox now as the spots have spread up his legs, across his shoulders and a couple now on his tummy. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for mouth ulcers though. I hadn’t even considered hand foot and mouth.

How is your son now OP?

mammabing · 13/06/2024 09:15

Turns out lots of you were right and it was hand foot and mouth. When the ulcers appeared it was rough. I think we were thrown off by the message from nursery so just assumed chickenpox.
His little feet are still covered in blisters but he’s much more active now and playing. The first three days were spent having cuddles and watching postman pat on repeat. He’s also got a throat spray so no issues eating anymore.
He’s very kindly passed his germs onto me too so looks like we’re isolating a little longer.
On the bright side we’re stocked up with oats and calamine lotion for when chickenpox does come.

Oh bless. Glad he's feeling a bit better now, hopefully you feel better soon. My son passed hfm into me two years running and it was awful!
