Oh good luck!!! You are about two years ahead of where I hope to be one day.
Have you looked at the tda website. It had interview stuff on there I think. I am sure someone with real experience will be along soon.

You will do well I am sure! Experience and maturity count for a lot (I keep telling myself )
I am actually going to be applying for my PGCE in primary teaching as fortunately I have a degree (History gained when I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do.) I am trying to wait until my dd2 is at school before I start so I have this year to get as much primary experience as I can around the nursery sessions....before applying. DH is in the forces though so I don't eve know where I will be living then .
Seriously good luck. You will be great!!!!!

schneebly · 07/04/2008 16:04

Vanilla - Thank you and good luck with your experience/applications/possible moves! My DH is not in the forces but in a job where he has to move if he wants to climb the ladder so am feeling a little unsure myself! He only started this job last summer so hoping we are here at least long enough for me to finish the course! That is if I get on.

Positive thinking now!!!! And hoping your dh's job stays put for now.
Also a bump for someone who has been there and done it. I know there are people out there...

Big things in education in general (can't help with primary I'm afraid)

Formative assessment(assessment for learning not summative testing)
Personalised learning
getting children to 'Take control' of their learning....self an peer assessment
Every child matters (Government initiative)

Falling away a little VAK

schneebly · 07/04/2008 18:47

Thanks Martianbishop Have been swotting up on Every Child Matters so it is good that you mentioned it! Will do some reading on the other things you havementioned.

Try watching some teachers TV programmes as they give a really good overview, there is a very good programme on Every Child mattters. If you goggle them they are easy to find, sorry can't do links.

schneebly · 08/04/2008 12:29

manyhands - just noticed this sorry! Thank you very much for your advise. I have been watching teachers TV on and off (have it on just now) Dont think I have seen the programme on Every Child Matters - will chekc the guide in TES and see if it is on before interview.

Hi schneebly. I'm in my first year studying BA Primary Education - in the middle of school placement at the moment, hence the late response. From what I can remember my interview was pretty informal. They asked me what qualities I thought were important in a teacher - a group of us had to discuss this in front of the interviewewr and then arrange the qualities in a pyramid style with the most important on top. They also asked a few questions on my views of discipline and how would I deal with a dissruptive student. It was basically common sense. Wishing you the best of luck tomorrow - let us know how you get on

Lois27 · 08/04/2008 23:29

PS if they ask you about different styles of teaching - stress importance of children getting hands on experiences wherever possible and developing skills, as new curriculum is leaned very heavily towards skills and practical work

schneebly · 09/04/2008 08:29

Brilliant thanks Lois! Hope I will be in your position this time next year!

in these situations i think it is quite good to show you have thought personally about what these issues mean to you and your experience. It might help to write down a number of examples of things that have happened adn use them to illustrate you answers on ECM and classroom to show you have reflected adn formed opinions.

VanillaPumpkin · 10/04/2008 19:08

So???? Hope all ok.

soyabean · 10/04/2008 19:58

How did it go Schneebly? And what did you wear in the end? Hope it was all OK.
