Hey guys, so my 19 month old was admitted into hospital 3 days ago and they said he had a viral wheeze which was treated as asthma, he was given a blue inhaler to take at home whenever his breathing goes bad or when he has a bad cough. When we took him in, the nurse said that his upper lip was blue and his oxygen went low which was quite scary. He’s a lot lot better now, he got discharged the next day. However this morning when he was playing in the garden, we noticed that his upper lip was again a bit blue. We called the hospital as the GP was closed today, they told us to bring him in to be checked over which we did, the doctor (same one who discharged him the other day) said that his oxygen, heart rate and everything looked perfectly fine and that the blueness was because he’s recovering from the viral wheeze and chest infection. He’s a really good doctor and he looked after my baby really well the other day when he was admitted too, but I’m still worried. The doctor also said that some toddlers do get a little blue sometimes (?) due to cold and other stuff. It definitely wasn’t due to cold today as it was quite warm today. Anyway I guess I’m just asking, any experiences of this? It’s quite scary when it happened.

Dd1 is 9 and still gets slightly blue lips every now and then, often when she is getting over an illness. Hopefully a bit reassuring - although always check if you are concerned, drs are always happy to see young children.
