1 Year Old - Not even close to crawling

I've seen a lot of posts on this but I just want to understand at what point should I be concerned about lack of mobility in 1yo DD. She currently sits well, but is unable to get herself into a seated position herself. She leans forward to reach for toys but does not attempt to go beyond her reach. She only rolled for the first time at 10.5 months, she still does this but it's occasional, she does not like to be on her front.

She does not try to pull herself up or stand and when we encourage her to walk or hold on to something standing she immediately topples over.

Just wondering if anyone has had something similar. As standard she is the only NCT baby not to be doing it and I hate taking her to soft play with them as she gets so frustrated and I have to sit with her permanently.

Have you mentioned it to the HV/GP?

My first never crawled, went straight to walking, we had one of those jumpers attached to door frame, I’m sure it helped his legs become stronger. My second had a walker, he crawled but was a late walker. Do you have any of these.

Neither of mine crawled. Both became expert bum-shufflers and walked at 14 months.

D's hated tummy time with a passion. They don't have to tick every single box in order to demonstrate that they are reaching milestones.

Check in with your HV though for some reassurance.

Have you had her one year assessment with the health visitor? If not then book that in or get an appointment to be seen anyway and see what they say, it could be something like a delay or hypermobility or it could be normal for her and s do it in the next month or so.

There was a mum at the playgroup I went to whose daughter wasn’t crawling at 1. At around 14 months she started crawling then a week or 2 later she started walking.

It may be worth having a chat with your HV about especially if you are concerned, but every kid does things in their own time x

DD rolled for the first time on her first birthday, bum-shuffled about 16 months, crawled at 19 months and finally walked at 21 months.

Nothing wrong at all, just taking her time. Nursery made me get the HV involved who wasn't that bothered, I wasn't that bothered. She had strength, just didn't want to stand.

Sandwichgen · 03/06/2024 09:01

do
you have wooden floors? They are painful to crawl on. Mine bum-shuffled instead

Sparticle · 03/06/2024 09:04

DH always tells me how his DB just sat there until 18 months and then started running. If you're worried, then do consult a HV (if you can actually access one...) but I'm sure it will be fine.

DoublePeonies · 03/06/2024 09:09

Crawling isn't a milestone - and not all babies will crawl. And, in fairness, if she hates tummy time, crawling isn't going to happen quickly!
Babies who don't crawl often bum shuffle. Some just walk - and average first steps are 14 months, with upto 18 months within typical ranges.

Is this the only thing you are worried about? If so, leave her be. If there are more concerns, I'd speek to a health visitor.

Thanks all for your responses, we have her one year check up at with the health visitor on Friday so I will definitely discuss it then, I was just wondering what other peoples experience was and and what point physio becomes an option.

We did try her in a walker which she loved for a while but I read they can actual cause a delay in walking.

I would speak to your HV - the not crawling in itself is nothing for concern but with the wider picture of the sitting and not really rolling, it’s worth just seeking some advice and reassurance.
