Nappy Rash / allergy?

I’m really hoping someone might be able to help!

My 7 month old has had terrible nappy rash for months now. Doctor has prescribed a few things that have helped a tiny bit but never completely- timodine, canestan HC and another one with antibiotic cream.

I’ve tried so many barrier creams - all the usual ones, the yellow weleda one has been best, which I often combine with vasoline but to be honest the rash has got terrible again. The skin isn’t broken, but bright red and obviously very itchy.

I change the nappy every few hours, including through the night, and always use cotton wool and water. I’ve tried a few different nappy brands, and just ordered a bamboo one. I try to give her nappy free times but that’s not as easy now she is trying to scratch.

I wondered if anyone has some miracle cure or advice?! It’s like she’s allergic to her own wee and poo. She’s BF so perhaps something I’m eating? Should I also try reusable nappies?

I'm at a loss what to do but its horrible seeing her so uncomfortable!

thanks x

My daughter had awful nappy rash due to cmpa and other allergies partly due to large frequent loose stools. When she was a newborn it was up to 20 times a day and when she was a bit older 4-8 times a day.

We did use reusable nappies most of the time and I don't think it made a huge difference in the nappy rash. You don't get the smell from having soiled the nappy so you could miss a poo which could increase chance of getting a nappy rash. The big advantage was the poo never escaped the outer wrap so no changes of clothes were required

How is the poo consistency and frequency?

I really feel for you as my LO has skin issues and it's so hard when you're trying everything and nothing is working! I cut dairy out of my diet as gp suspected cmpa. One thing he has hardly had is nappy rash so I'll just explain what I do incase it helps. So I either use cotton wool and water like you or the tesco extra sensitive wipes. I then completely dab/blot the whole area with a dry muslin cloth and sort of press and hold to make sure the area is completely dry (I read one of the main causes is excess moisture). I then give him 5 mins at least nappy free (with a muslin at the ready in case he wees). I then dab sudocrem over the whole area and press it in until the skin is barely white from the cream. I only do this if the skin is looking red, otherwise I don't use any cream at all.

I really really hope this helps and good luck!

Hi I’m in the same situation, where nappy rash just won’t heal, any recommendations gratefully received

No nappy as much as possible does help. It’s not easy though
