Prenatal depression - did it lift after birth?

I’m suffering pretty bad prenatal depression anxiety that hits me in waves 🌊 it feels crushing and I can’t escape the dark thoughts.

I was wondering whether it is likely to lift when baby comes next week? I have a C section booked.

I’ve had it the whole time but getting more intense the closer we get. Their our various other stressors in my life which are contributing too…

Im scheduled to start talk therapy 3 weeks after baby comes

Thank in advance

Hi OP, didn’t want to read and run - I’m so sorry you’ve had such a difficult pregnancy. I don’t have direct experience of peri natal or post natal depression but I have had a lot of therapy for other issues and never regretted any of it, so hopefully you’ll have a good experience and things will gradually improve. You must be desperate for a break from feeling this way and I hope the baby’s arrival relieves some of the pressure and you get the help you need. Good luck for your C section next week - nearly there! X

Hi OP, I had peri natal depression with my second child. It vanished as soon as she was born. It didn't happen with my third child, but then I was hit with quite bad post natal depression.
Wishing you all the best.

I had horrendous antenatal depression and anxiety with my first. It lifted as soon as he was born and I felt amazing for ages. Midwife predicted the baby blues but it didn't happen. I had it again with my second but was honest about how bad it had been with my first, and was supported really well throughout pregnancy by the perinatal mental health team, so it didn't get as bad. I really hope it gets better for you.

Yes I was about to be sent to the mum and baby unit but they brought my c section forward and it went as soon as DC was born. I'm basically intolerant to my own hormones

I had horrific pre natal depression, was almost suicidal, and put on anti depressants. It did lift the day DS2 was born thankfully. I hope yours lifts. Mine was definitely hormonal but also I was in denial of being in an abusive relationship and felt so alone. I hope you are OK and it improves quickly. Sending you positive vibes and happy hormones.
