How much spending money for a child ?

We are
Going abroad for a week next week and how we are all inclusive. We have been asked if our two dds 9 & 7 would like some spending money. We normally wouldn't spend any more more than £10 each on token gifts they choose as we are on an extremely tight budget and saved for a year for this holiday which is a pool holiday and entertainment holiday for families.

Do your children take any spending money on holiday? And if so what do u think is a reasonable amount.
Thanks x

My 7 yr old had 50 euros, this was more than I would have given her but relatives gave her spending money. She did just buy tat but enjoyed the independence of making own choices. It ran out before the end and she was told that that was that and couldn’t have anything else.

Mine are younger (7&5) but they don't have a personal budget to spend. Usually there will be one treat a day, like an ice cream (though that might already be included in AI), then a toy or gift on the last day.

Same as the pp. I have never allocated 'spending money' as in money to buy random crap of their choosing on a holiday. We just make decisions on treats (ice cream) or something to buy (toy) based on our overall budget.

I assume this is, say, a grandparent making an offer or something similar? I would say, that's lovely, thank you and let them choose the amount. I think £10-20 per child would certainly be sufficient, but probably depends on your budget overall and how much you'll actually be out and about (not eating AI ice creams).

Very kind of Granny, £30 is a nice amount to fritter away over the course of the week. And easily done!

We don’t really give them additional spending money, the dds both work and earn their own money and ds still gets pocket money so it’s up to them what they spend. We obviously still pay for everything else when there, meals, trips, ice creams, beers (for the grown up dc!) and any regular expense.
