HELP! Extremely paranoid and baby being shaken

Hello, I have a 10 and a half month old girl. We are staying at my sisters, and we have more relatives in the area. I have a 12 year old cousin who likes to play with my baby. Yesterday, my sister was watching the baby as I ate dinner.

She then came downstairs and said my 12 year old cousin held her head and shook it side to side for a couple of seconds. She then told him off immediately and passed my baby back.

Baby doesn’t seem to be reacting abnormally, but I am worried sick. I haven’t slept all night because I’m paranoid it might’ve caused damage. Will my baby be alright??

Thank you xxx

Baby will be fine, shaken baby damage is seriously hard shaking. You probably won't leave the baby with the cousin again though, will you?

I’m sorry you’re worried
if your baby is ok and feeding and sleeping then I’m sure all is ok
shaken baby is very different from what you’ve described
the twelve year old needs to be told how to be gentle with a baby

Please try not to worry, I think it has to be pretty extensive shaking, and the baby is 10 months, not 10 weeks so has more mucles control, so much less vulnerable.

No, of course not. My sister is 23 and was with my baby with my other cousins in the room either them. But I won’t let baby out of my sight anymore if I’m around those kids again. 😂

Yea, my sister told him immediately after, but I probably won’t be seeing the cousin again on this trip trip anyway.

Awww, your baby will be OK. She probably shakes herself a bit more to be honest!

Keep her away from the 12 year old boy though. Sounds like he may be a mischief maker, and next time you may not be so lucky! Why was he shaking her head from side to side? He's old enough to know better! Hmm

That’s exactly what I thought! So I wasn’t worried when he was around with my sister watching. I think he’s just silly. But I will be extra wary from now on.

Thank you all for the reassuring responses. I have been crying all night, as I have such terrible anxiety regarding my baby! I didn’t see the shaking happen, so in my head I keep imagining it and panicking.
