My 2 week old baby is struggling so bad with wind and bellyache! He has watery poos atleast 8-10 times a day with some mucus some times in its , I've spoke to the doctors about this and they've put him on neocate milk intolerance. I really feel like it's colic , he was on SMA little angels and has been so unsettled since birth , I've gave him 1 bottle of neocate today he spewed it back up then screamed pulling his legs ik bending his back neck over his shoulder I've gone to change his nappy pulled his legs up and he let a massive amount of painful farts off, now he's laid here relaxed. Does anyone think he will benefit from like colic milk?? I don't think he's milk intolerant I think he's very gassy and colicky he doesn't settle , although he doesn't scream for hours but after a feed he's very unsettled I'm at my whits end with doctors changing his milk all the time he's so little and I'm not sure what colic milk to change him too!

How’s longs he been on the new milk? Scientific studies show that your baby’s symptoms can start to resolve as quickly as 3 days after starting an Amino Acid- based Formula like Neocate LCP, but some symptoms may take up to 14 days, or longer.

He's been on it a day but I'm just not convinced it's milk protein he has no symptoms but a bit of mucus in the poo sometimes. He has more colic symptoms more than anything

From what I understand the symptoms of colic and cmpa can be quite similar. The neocate can cause more gas to begin with until baby gets used to it. Also it’s thinner than other formula so can cause more spit up. But if this is becoming a big problem you should contact the gp. I think it’s best to stick with it for now just to see if it does help and then go back to doctor if you are not seeing any improvement. I know it’s horrible though when you have an upset baby and you just want to console them! Have you tried any baby massage or bicycle legs etc to try and help relieve the gas?

I've been back and forth with the gp they literally just seem to throw different milk at me mf don't care. And yes I do baths baby massages bicycle legs I also feed him upright and keep him upright for a hour after I'm not getting no sleep because he won't settle

Pop some infacol in his bottle and I found when my little one had a lot of trapped wind his favourite thing was to be held upright on my chest and I'd pat his bum firmly whilst gently bopping him up and down iyswim. I think the movement and patting helped move the wind along. Mines got cmpa and was on soya formula from 3 weeks old. You've got to give it a week or two for the dairy formula to get out of his system.

How many different formulas have you tried? This will certainly not be helping your baby at only 2 weeks old. Our first had awful colic, barely drank and was generally a very unsettled baby. They queried CMPA and she was put onto Neocate but told us we should try it for 8 weeks at least to see if it helped her. It was not CMPA- she had silent reflux which nothing really helped and she just grew out of it. Unfortunately with babies it is just a case of ruling things out and this takes time. You have my sympathies because I remember how stressful it was and how helpless you feel. But I would stick with the Neocate for now and let them settle on it. Tiger in the tree hold is very good for wind. And when they are old enough Gripe water. We tried many of the colic relief supplements but they never made any difference.

Colic just means unexplained crying. Which I know you say he’s doing but it’s not an explanation or a diagnosis in its own right, more it’s a symptom of something else being wrong that you haven’t figured out yet. I would stick with the neocate for at least a week and I’d ask about silent reflux and if the doctor thinks he should also be medicated for that, as it often goes along with CMPA- like omeprazole or carobel to thicken the milk.

Sunnysummer24 · 28/05/2024 15:05

Colic means unexplained crying.

Your description sounds very much like CMPA. There is a really good facebook page for cmpa. I would recommend asking on there.

Infacol makes reflux worse so I wouldn’t recommend that.

Devilsmommy · 28/05/2024 15:05

Constantly in pain with his stomach, major wind, awful poos, and sometimes his skin would be very blotchy and dry after a bottle. Tbh what you described with your little one does sound like cmpa

I was just thinking this, but try not to make too many changes at once because you won't know what has made things better/ worse. Let her settle on the Neocate and try and be patient I know its hard. Also you asked about CMPA sysmptoms- the wind, mucous and your baby being unsettled fit with this

Mistralli · 28/05/2024 15:08

Honestly you need to stick out the CMPA formula to see if it works and helps.

In the meantime, underneath this, it sounds like you might benefit from a break and some more rest. Don't feel awkward, call in whatever calvary you can. Other parents will get it.

"The baby is unsettled and never stops screaming. Please take them out in the pram for 2h so I can catch some rest."

Put your own oxygen mask on first.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/05/2024 16:36

I had a very colicky baby.
Had your MW/HV shown you how to rub their tummy or do bicycle legs to ease the trapped wind?
Infacol helped too.

elly1255 · 28/05/2024 17:08

Thank you everyone! I'm going to stick out the milk, I do have carobel in from the doctor so I will be giving him that with feeds and seeing how it goes thankyou all

Glad your sounding better later today. Hope you get a good (ish) night tonight!

I do remember how awful it is when they are just screaming in tummy pain. :s

BurbageBrook · 28/05/2024 21:04

It does sound like CMPA to me.

NorthernDuck · 28/05/2024 22:20

My baby has CMPA, he’s pretty exclusively breastfed but we top up now and then with formula. We had a similar reaction to Althera and it turns out he’s also allergic to coconut which is in the formula, I think neocate also has coconut in it. We knew he was CMPA because he was fine when I exclusively breastfed him and avoided dairy/soy.
This may not be the case with your baby but just consider that there are still things in the formula he could be allergic to.
