Share your exasperating everyday parenting moments. I'll go first!

This morning we've been packing for a trip. 5 wanted to help, so I tasked him with packing the toothbrushes and toothpaste

Firstly he needed help locating them (they're where they always are). Then he needed help finding the travel cases (fair). A few minutes later he came to where I was packing to ask what else he could help with. I hadn't seen the toothbrushes go in the bag yet so reminded him that was his job. 'Oh yeah!' he exclaims and rushes off. I went downstairs and he told me it was all done. I checked the toiletry bag, one toothbrush is in. Checked the bathroom, one other toothbrush. Asked 5 about the other two...he can't remember where he's put them.

Dear lord!!

So either they're in one of the bags or we'll be buying new toothbrushes on arrival.

Got to love when they want to help 😂

Would love to hear more everyday parenting stories!

You are expecting perfection at the age of 5?

It all sounds rushed and you’d have been better off making a list with 5, practice letters etc and then do the helping supervised. Not sure this helped you in any way nor taught the child anything - other than that they failed.

Okay.

I think the OP is just having a lighthearted moan about getting things done with "helpful" kids. Cut the bullshit about stopping everything to turn it into a lesson, that's not realistic.

Yes OP, I get you. My toddler helped me today by wiping his own runny nose. He emptied 3 tissue boxes to do it. I gave him a round of applause and sighed inwardly. He was very pleased with himself.

Well my 2 year old put his favourite cuddly bunny into the toilet when I said we had to clean bunny .. into a toilet that my 12 year old had not flushed 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah as @Poohsticksatdawn says it was just a light-hearted thread about how 'helpful' children can be sometimes. I definitely don't expect perfection, have learned over the past 5 years to try not to have any expectations at all and just find the fun and humour in as many situations as possible. Like the fact that we still haven't found the two toothbrushes....its been a week. Where could they be?! Be a giggle when they do eventually turn up!

Well done on keeping the sigh internal PoohStick! It's lush when they're proud of themselves even though to an adults eye they've caused tornado level carnage to reach satisfaction. Funny little beans!
