through the repetition stage?

'Mummy I don't like this'
'Okay put it in the bin then'
'Mummy I don't like this'
'That's okay you don't have to like it, you tried it, either put it down or put it in the bin'
'I don't like this'
'Yes, you've said...so what do you do with it now?'
'I don't like it'

ARGHHHHHH!!!

Or...
'Mummy can I help you?'
a millisecond of silence whilst I ponder if I have the time and energy to make the task last 4x as long by accepting help'
'Mummy can I help you?'
'I'm just thinking about it sweetheart'
'Can I help you Mummy?'
'Just give me a moment please'
'I'd like to help you.'

Or
'Mummy can we go now please?'
'Yes!'
'Please can we go?'
'I answered you already, did you hear my answer?'
'I'd like to go'

These are just examples from the past 10 minutes. My answers vary tremendously, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

My nearly 3 year old does this. I hate repeating myself so I don't. I say it once then not again.

"I want a biscuit please."

"Sure I'll get you one once I've finished washing these dishes"

"I want a biscuit please"

....

Stop repeating yourself.

If he's cheeky about it "I want a biscuit I want a biscuit I want a biscuiiiiit!" he gets told he won't get a biscuit at all if he's going to shout over and over. He stops pretty quickly at that and asks nicely once.

It's bloody annoying but it's normal. Don't feed it by repeating yourself constantly though. Then it's just some mad game for them.

Also hate repeating myself. Drives me to distraction. On a par with taking the time to answer a question when the questioner has ceased listening.

Will try harder not to fall into the repetition trap. I don't seem to be able to say 'I will not repeat myself, you've had an answer' in a tone which doesn't illicit tears. 3 is very sensitive at the moment!

Thanks for answering.

It's beyond annoying. I hate it too. Just don't repeat yourself more than once then talk about anything else.

They're absolutely insane.

They want to chat, so one way round it is for you to talk more and ask more questions, or sing songs etc.

You can't expect a kid to be quiet, because many of them are hard wired to want interaction.
