What are your two year olds playing with?

Hive mind!!!! Heading out shopping for my two year olds birthday tomorrow and just curious as to what others two year olds are in to? We've already bought some garden toys including a Wendy house and slide and a tool/building bench thing, but we're struggling because we have so much already (older siblings!) so we already have EVERYTHING peppa, books, puzzles, cars, Duplo, stickle bricks, musical instruments, a toy kitchen, pretend pets, a roll/shopping basket, doctors kit etc etc. I don't feel like I'd by buying anything for the sake of it as it definitely feels like he's ready for some new things to play with but I'm just wondering what we might be missing!?

Any ideas welcome! Thank you xx

So just turning 2 or just turning 3?

DuploTrain · 23/05/2024 20:51

My DS absolutely loves Happyland (people, buildings, cars, animals) and will play with it for literally hours.

I came on to say this. My twins started playing with happyland at this age and only stopped recently, they're 7. It's great value.

Cars cars cars!!!

Play food for the kitchen, and pots and pans

Scooter

Recently getting into the skate park, so I'm trying to get some size adjustable skates to strap on to his shoes

Piano mat and/or tiny keyboard is a big hit here

Recently really in to imaginative play, so little people that he hops around and talks to the others

magnatiles! Any brand of magnetic tiles, my girl loves. Even puts them in her toy pushchair

Dontdeclutterthemagic · 23/05/2024 21:05

Only a little thing but my 2yo is hugely into squishies - the Works do a great tub.

A car mat (the type with roads etc) was a huge hit with my older boy, as was a duvet cover with roads on.

Happyland

kikisparks · 23/05/2024 21:29

Playmobil, train set, doll with buggy, scooter, tonie box wasn’t a huge hit at first but she’s 2.5 and we use it every day now. But by far her favourite thing to do is play with little figures.

BertieBotts · 23/05/2024 21:29

Mine is really into all kinds of small world play - especially characters and animals and little people. He makes them walk around and "talk" it's hilarious. He is coming up for three now, though. Role play has been a really big hit this year - toy kitchen stuff, tools, etc.

The other thing he loves at the moment is VTech Marble Rush. I was unsure about this but it's really good as it's chunky and easy for them to put together.

BertieBotts · 23/05/2024 21:30

The small world play has surprised me as neither of my other two were into that.

LeafHunter · 23/05/2024 21:34

Ds is 18m but loves tegu or magnetic o - any magnetic building tiles really.

JumpstartMondays · 23/05/2024 21:47

Dress up costumes, princess dresses/spider man.

Nadiya Hussein cooking/baking kit (with utensils, apron and bowl!)

Yourethebeerthief · 23/05/2024 21:52

Speedtrack (roll up car track) and some matchbox cars/hot wheels cars

Magnetic tiles

Ride on tractor

Balance bike

MeinKraft · 23/05/2024 21:53

Babies, with a very strong preference for baby Annabelle. The babies have a cot and a pram, they get their dinner, bottles and dummies, then I have to look after them all while my 2 year old puts her backpack on and 'goes to work' Grin

Play doh and slime are also god tier, I allow them as much as I can stand but god the mess.

Miloandfreddy · 23/05/2024 21:56

My 2 year old has a little lawnmower he plays with in the grass outside and he just loves it!

iAmBarbara · 23/05/2024 21:59

dressing up outfits
playdoh (especially the dentist or barber kit one!)
leapfrog interactive ice cream cart

NewYorkDilemma · 23/05/2024 22:39

Thank you everyone! I'm so sorry I should have said he's about to turn two! I should have also said we have some magformers as well as the leapfrog pizza cart and little balance bikes and scooters but will look at playmobil and happy land things as well as some of the other ideas too! Thank you everyone! X

Is there much difference between happy land and fisher price little people? Just done a quick google and looks like smyths (where we were planning to go) don't do happy land but they do fisher price but don't want to buy that if happy land is better! xx

There’s not much difference really :)

BertieBotts · 24/05/2024 13:57

Happyland was made by ELC and is no longer sold I don't think, so Little People will be more compatible going forward.

Playmobil 123 is another alternative which is similar. And Duplo (the chunkier lego) has some sets which are little houses/scenes with people.

Personally I find it is best to pick one system rather than having loads to mix and match. You can sometimes play with them all together but it's nice if they are all interactive. The normal sized Playmobil is mostly too small for a 2yo though - some of the sets work OK, but you'd have to take the really tiny, fiddly pieces away and store them for when she is older.

Muffin101 · 24/05/2024 14:00

Britains tractors times a million, the wooden railway sets you can get at Lidl, jumbo chalks from b&m, one of those wooden beads on a wire things like you used to get at the doctors (we found it in a charity shop!), his sand pit, his paddling pool!

DuploTrain · 24/05/2024 14:07

I can confirm that Happyland is still sold! I have an unhealthy addiction and living vicariously through my DC.

ReadtheReviews · 24/05/2024 14:18

Right now? Paper aeroplanes! Build your own plastic flower garden thing. Pair matching game. Matchbox cars and a bendy track.
