Ecoli Outbreak - Nursery shut down

DS’s nursery has been closed down by public health due to an ecoli outbreak. A couple of poor kids have had confirmed cases. They’re going to test all the kids which seems really sensible. Has anyone had this happen to their child’s childcare setting before? I’m trying to figure out how common this situation is. If a full shutdown is the norm just to be on the safe side or if a shutdown is due to bigger concerns? Anyone any experience they can share?

Not Ecoli but ours had a few cases of invasive strep A. Nursery was closed for a deep clean, all children had preventative antibiotics then chicken pox vaccinations.

Hello,

if you’re based in north Tyneside my son and daughter are at the same nursery and my son has tested positive, my daughters result hasn’t come back to us yet.

I know from speaking to a lot of parents there have been quite a few positives. It’s a bit of a nightmare as they can’t return to nursery or any childcare setting until they are negative and I’ve read online a lot of children take several weeks to months to get a negative result.

Worst case scenario is my youngest is negative and then at any point could catch it from her brother.

My husband is off this week but I’m going to have to look at taking unpaid leave I think for a period of time and I’m supposed to be starting a new job the week after this! I’m so frustrated as this is so easily avoided by people a) respecting the 48 hours and b) the nursery keeping the changing areas clean.

Thankfully my son is okay currently.

I’m just in shock something this rare has happened to us. It’s all just unbelievable.
