Dribble rash tips?

Hi all. My 7 month old DD has had awful dribble rash for months, when it gets very bad and it’s bothering her I use a bit of hydrocortisone to clear it up but I’d rather not do this if I can help
it.
GP advised to apply sudocrem or Vaseline as a barrier but it seems to just make it worse for her 😞 I’ve also tried balmonds but her skin went very red so I haven’t tried it since. does anyone have any tips? I try and keep her chin/face as dry as I can but it just seems to spread so quickly all over her chin/neck area and I can’t seem to get it under control!

Poor thing. Nipple cream is the best solution I’ve found. Lansinoh as that’s what I had but I’m sure others would work as well.

Make sure the area is completely clean and dry, then put a good amount of Lansinoh on. Clean and Pat dry regularly and repeat.

Thank you both, I have used lansinoh which I find more effective than Vaseline so will persevere with that. Is this more effective than sudocrem at clearing the rash up?
The GP was unconcerned - I realise it isn’t life or death but I don’t want to use the steroid cream as a default.

I went to GP for DDs dribble rash and she gave us Hydromol (which is like Vaseline but thicker and greasier) and Daktakort (steroid to be used just when it flared up). We used Hydromol every day which hydrated and formed a barrier - Sudocrem was good but very drying - and then just used the Daktakort as and when it got really fiery. We made sure to apply the Hydromol before she ate, particularly things like fruit that was more acidic; or went swimming, to protect her chin / neck. It's gone really well and we barely need to apply anything now x

I used to apply Metaneum nappy rash cream at bedtime or once they were asleep. It worked wonders overnight and if there was a faint yellow tinge left by the cream, it calmed down the red of the rash. There are own brands of Metaneum now, but I don't know how they compare except they're cheaper.

Thank you I will have a look at hydromol.

Ah I have thought about applying some of this, was a bit unsure about using it on her face but I’ve used it on her bum before and it’s like miracle cream x

Can I just flag that the ONLY way to get rid of the damp dribble smell in the bibs is to wash them with spirit vinegar - it's a blinking miracle! I cannot stand the smell of damp in clothes and I promise you this is the only thing that gets rid of it. I use about 1/4 cup in a wash.

Aquaphor is amazing. It’s an American pimped up vaseline with lanolin (amongst other healing stuff) so provides an effective barrier, is hydrating not drying and heals the sore bits. You can get it from Boots in the UK.

Hey there, have you tried My Midwife expert dribble rash cream? My DS had something similar you are experiencing and I tried this cream for 3 days and it all cleared out. I normally use childfarm and aveeno cream for him. But this was worth trying.

Thank you I will give it a go. I’ve tried Metanium overnight for a couple of nights but it hasn’t helped, just dried her skin out and stained her sleeping bag, doh! A slick of Vaseline seems to be keeping it from getting too inflamed but it is definitely bothering her :(
