Bags/creases under newborns eyes (1 week). Does this look normal?

I’ve noticed a “second crease” under his eyes which I’m not sure is normal or not.

Can anyone help please? Noticed them for a couple of days now and they’re on either side.

Thanks in advance!

Might be tiredness and normal, might be a bit of puffiness leftover form the birth. Was it a straightforward delivery?

Sunshineclouds11 · 22/05/2024 16:59

Has he had sticky eyes?

UpUpUpU · 22/05/2024 17:00

He looks puffy. What is his weight? Could just be a bit puffy post birth or on the chubbier side.

Congratulations x

My daughter had this and it turned into conjunctivitis so perhaps keep an eye on it.

Just checked his eyes and they’re all okay now. I’m more interested in the crease/line really as he’s had it from birth since looking at photos.

Unless it goes as he puts weight on around his cheeks etc?

He looks completely normal to me.
They all have slightly puffy faces as newborns.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 24/05/2024 15:00

Natural to worry, ask your HV but I’m sure it’s normal.
Congratulations. ☺️

Thank you! When does the puffy faces as a new born settle/change etc?

My DS had eyes like this when born - almost like massive eye bags and very puffy. As he put on weight and his face filled out they went. I would mention at one of your HV appointments to put your mind at ease and see what they say

Thank you! Just worried when comparing I guess. Normally you just see the eye bags?

Well DD was c sec and she had conjunctivitis in one eye. So it watered and looked puffy
for ages.
She’s 8 now so sorry I can’t quite remember to be honest when all the puffiness went.

OP I'm a retired midwife, and I had four babies myself via CS.

Your baby looks normal to me. All babies look like yours.

What are you worrying about, in particular? Some rare genetic condition?

Or something not so rare, like Down Syndrome?

Jessie21 · 24/05/2024 16:40

It always makes me laugh that babies/young children look so tired, because their lives aren't hard! He looks totally fine, congratulations
