My daughter is nearly 7 months. Weaning is going ok but pretty repetitive at the moment. Any meal suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As many as possible I just can't think, thank you

Get the What Mummy Makes cookbook, all her recipes are fab

CadyEastman · 21/05/2024 08:09

Try making some blueberry pancakes first everyone at the weekend. She will probably love them. Mine are teens now and still appear whenever I start making them.

Have you tried her with some Dahl yet?

What do you like to eat? I would start with that and make small tweaks if necessary to work for DC eg I make soup of some kind once a week for dinner, but they are never going to be able to get that into their mouths themselves at that age, so I cooked some pasta twirls (or any other shape that has lots of inny bits) and used the soup as a sauce. DCs could grab the pasta and shove it into their mouths easily enough, and still got the taste of the soup. For a long time we left out the chilli during cooking and added hot sauce at the table for curries. There is usually a workaround, and I'm all for making less work and not cooking multiple meals! I also think they are more likely to eat stuff when they see everyone tucking in around them to the same thing.
My go-to lunch for them when I was having junk something completely unsuitable was a couple of new potatoes and whatever ends of veg were in the fridge, tossed in oil and some dried herbs or spices. If the oven was already on, I'd chuck them in there but otherwise I'd microwave until cooked then grill to crisp up a bit. I didn't have an air fryer then, but would have used that unstead if I did!

I would just offer what you normally eat, with adjustments to size and shape so they are easier to eat. So anything in stick or ball shape is easier to hold. So roasted veg in stick shape, chips/sweet potato chips (from actual potatoes, chopped into chip shape, roasted with oil), meatballs, fruit/savoury muffins, etc.

I did a lot of carrot/cheese, broccoli/cheese, tomato/feta savoury muffins at that age.

Just give her what you're having but cook with no salt etc and salt your own food at the table.

Staple things that weaning babies love are omelette, scrambled eggs, avocado, pancakes, pasta in sauces, yogurts, toast, soups, porridge, fruit and veg sticks, humous...

JumpstartMondays · 21/05/2024 13:25

What meals do you eat? Portion some off for baby. Baby-led weaning is awesome!

Pasta Bolognese

Mac n cheese with added cauliflower and sweetcorn

Egg fried rice (the egg helps bind the rice together so it's easier to hold).

Mild curry

Roast chicken

Sausage casserole and mash

Slow cooked pork orzo and apple

Beef stew

Soup

Stir-fry noodles with veg, prawns

Steamed veg and white fish

Tortilla pizza

Frittata/omelette

Fritters with veg and pesto stirred in

Just cook with Zero Salt stock cubes the same foods that you eat.
