Toddlers and Pringles

CeruleanBlueX · 19/05/2024 20:40

Has anyone else noticed how many parents are giving toddlers tubes of Pringles as food? I've seen children in pushchairs, barely able to talk, being given tubes of Pringles to just eat.

They are incredibly salty, and with little nutrition. To me it seems reckless to the point of neglect. Why not carrot or apple...

It's not even parents that look like they can't afford decent food, the clothes they ware and the pushchairs they have seem reasonably expensive....

Not just Pringles, Haribo, chocolate etc. Honestly, kids under 2.5 shouldn’t know what chocs or sweets are

My 2 year old loves haribo. Eggs the best!

SuffolkUnicorn · 19/05/2024 22:05

They could have at least given the child a dip to go with them

Fucking hell. I tried not to but it seemed every man and his dog wants to hand children sweets at Easter and Xmas. We had about 6 full size eggs given to our 2 year old this year. Handed straight to him. why?!

But anyway, op, I think you're seeing a tiny snap shot of their life. Maybe they just had a carrot or an apple. I give my children home cooked everything but I have also definitely given them a Pringle or two.

I have never seen a toddler eating pringles out and about, but if I fancied some and I was offered apple or carrots instead I would have a right fucking tantrum.

Same.

I could just about forgive someone offering me some salt and vinegar Discos instead but anyone offering me a carrot instead of Pringles would find themselves with a carrot shoved in a very uncomfortable place.

mondaytosunday · 19/05/2024 22:29

Nope, never, and I come across toddlers every day as I walk my dogs in one park popular with mums and another with a playground. I did give my son Doritos once though!
Years ago I did witness a mum pouring a can of coke into a bottle for her baby (about six months) to have!

CeruleanBlueX · 19/05/2024 22:36

Will just add, the NHS recommends no more than 2 grams of salt for a toddler, about a third of a tea spoon. More can lead to health problems, including obesity and high blood pressure.

Never seen kids eat Pringles here. It’s all about the Pom Bears 😊

Yes this.

Funnily enough I always used to make snooty remarks about kids in buggies eating a sausage roll. Until I had a toddler of my own. Like other people have said, it's a snapshot of the day, my child eats a reasonable amount of fruit, veg and "healthy" stuff and a (vegan) sausage roll is something simple I can grab when out and about that is easy for toddler to eat without making a horrific mess all over himself and his clothes!

I hate cleaning the buggy after my toddler has had a sausage roll. 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2024 22:45

Guessing your child @CeruleanBlueX has never kicked a Pringle or crisp let alone eaten one

Yes obv is a better fruit but everything in moderation

NuffSaidSam · 19/05/2024 22:48

Toddlers shouldn't really be eating Pringles we all know that, but you can see from how cross everyone is here and how many random 'reasons that pringles are actually good for them' posts there are just how many are letting their toddlers eat pringles. In moderation it's fine of course.

Haha same they do make a mess but easier to brush off. Better than melted chocolate all over toddlers face, hands and clothes haha!!!

Very true.

Or Wotsits. I'll never make that mistake again.

Yes!!! My PFB would never have had a sausage roll. My third ate them in the buggy from time to time 😉😬

On mumsnet I’m sure many would have hummus with their Pringles and that would be far more acceptable.

WithACatLikeTread · 20/05/2024 13:25

Pringles are expensive. I wouldn't waste them on my two year old. Own brand wotsits and quavers here.

Are you a first time mum by any chance?

Mum1422 · 05/10/2024 18:36

I agree with you, I also have daughter who is actually losing weight due to not wanting to eat much. We are being referred to a dietitian also my GP has said to give her anything which will add calories as my daughter also loves fruit but it’s not adding much weight. People can be so judgmental and it really annoys me especially you may not know that persons life etc..
