Neighbour ring doorbells ruining kids playing

We live in a cul-de-sac and many neighbours have ring doorbells. My child and others in the street play outside (something to be encouraged) but neighbours are complaining that their ring doorbells go off when the kids go on their driveway. The houses are all pretty close together with driveway next to eachother. We've even had neighbours shout abuse at the kids through the speaker and ive just had a neighbour message me that the constant notifications is annoying them while theyre on holiday abroad. Am i unreasonable to think its the technology thats the problem? Ring doorbells are there for security not to prevent little kids being kids.

When I played out as a kid and when my kids used to play out, we just stayed off of other peoples driveways 🤷‍♂️

Ponderingwindow · 16/05/2024 18:48

They can adjust the focus range on the ring doorbell. We had to angle ours just a bit so that it didn’t pick up passing cars.

NotTooOldPaul · 16/05/2024 18:48

Maybe they could adjust the ring doorbells so they only pick.up.people very close to their doors

This ^^

Don't stop your kids playing outside just because they can't use their technology properly.

TheFlis · 16/05/2024 18:49

Why are the kids going on other peoples driveways?

Eggplant44 · 16/05/2024 18:49

Teach your kids to stay off driveways that are not their own.

Jeezitneverends · 16/05/2024 18:50

They can change their notifications for their doorbells-mine doesn’t notify me every time something blows past the camera

Overthebow · 16/05/2024 18:50

They shouldn’t be going on other peoples driveways. I’m all for kids playing outside but not on others property. My 3 year old knows to stay off driveways and manages it.

PickleSarnie · 16/05/2024 18:51

Not condoning abuse obviously but kids shouldn't be on other people's driveways.

I used to live on a cul-de-sac and, whilst it was lovely in most respects, it was like everyone's front gardens and drives were just one giant play park. Kids scootering on my drive and round my car, balls being kicked against my wall, kids sat in my front garden inches screaming their heads of inches from my study where I was attempting to work. Playing outside is great but they need to keep off other peoples property.

Bendyblue · 16/05/2024 18:52

It’s lovely that they can play out in this way but they really really shouldn’t be going onto other peoples property. If they aren’t, the neighbours need to suck it up, but if they are, they need to be told not to.

Pigeonqueen · 16/05/2024 18:52

Driveways are peoples property and they shouldn’t be going on them.

SherlockHomies · 16/05/2024 18:52

Why are people suggesting the neighbours adjust their doorbell cams, instead of suggesting the kids keep off their driveways?

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 16/05/2024 18:53

The kids shouldn't be going on other peoples driveways in the first place.

Littletreefrog · 16/05/2024 18:53

If they are setting off the doorbells from the pavement then thats on the householder to adjust their doorbell. If they are walking on other peoples drives they need to stay off them.

This. Depends where the kids are.

LauderSyme · 16/05/2024 18:56

Is the problem that the ring doorbells go off even when the children are close to neighbouring driveways? If yes that is your neighbours' problem.

If the kids are actually on other people's driveways then you need to train your children to stay off them.

This OP.

LauderSyme · 16/05/2024 18:59

If your kids are trespassing on other people's property and you're on here complaining that the people don't like it, then I'm afraid you've got a nerve!

HauntedPencil · 16/05/2024 18:59

If they are on their driveways, they need to stop doing that, that's not on.

If they are being pinged when they are outside the driveways they are being grumpy.

Sounds to me like they are going on driveways? That would annoy be and I'm quite relaxed!

I've turned off notifications on mine as it really really annoying.

Octavia64 · 16/05/2024 18:59

The kids shouldn't be on driveways.

Stick to the road and pavements.

RobinEllacotStrike · 16/05/2024 19:00

Not your problem or your kids problem. They need to sort their own rings out.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 16/05/2024 19:01

Are they playing on other people’s driveways ? That’s not ok.

Or do the driveways belong to the parents of the children playing ?

Candleabra · 16/05/2024 19:01

The kids shouldn’t be on people’s driveways.

OrchardDoor · 16/05/2024 19:03

If you mean when the kids go on their own driveway, not your problem. If you mean the kids are going on the neighbour driveway, they can stop doing that.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 16/05/2024 19:05

This is so sad. We have a sloped driveway and I love it when the ring doorbell goes off due to a kid running up and down. Always makes me smile. People are too insular. Yes technically kids shouldn't go on peoples driveways but really would they prefer kids sat indoors playing in their phones?

OP it's worth having a conversation with your kids about trying to stay off driveways but that's probably as far as I would go. I'd probably judge the mean neighbours too.
