my two year old daughter has gone to bed fine until about a week ago when she decided to throw a tantrum when i try to put her to bed both for a nap in the daytime and at bedtime. she absolutely screams the place down and tries to escape the bedroom!! finding this extremely stressful, especially as i have a five year old who is really good, bless her, but needs me too at bedtime, for a story, "quality time" etc. Please help!!!

Is it time to drop her daytime nap, or does she still need it?

i tried that, but she just seems so tired, overtired even. you can see how tired she is but she just fights sleep! maybe she does need to drop the daytime nap but it will take a while for her to adjust - i don't know!!!aaaarrrrggghhh!!

Ooh, this is me. He used to just lie down, I'd shut the door, and that was that until morning. Now he goes bonkers. I've got 2 others, so can't spend 1/2 hour in the room waiting for him to drop off. Was thinking of putting them all in together, or changing things around so he shares with ds2 and ds1 gets his own room. It must feel unfair at 2 to be left on your own while the others are getting up to something fun.

I think you just have to be firm with her, is she just 2 or nearer to 3? Can you reason a bit with her, say things like if you go to sleep like a good girl mummy will take you to the park tomorrow, if you don't have a good sleep you will be too tired for the park or something like that?

I've struggled this week with a 17month old DD and have traced it back to the clocks changing. She is exhausted but won't sleep at her normal times and takes ages to drop off. Hope it wears off soon for all of us!

actually she's not two until end of this month! trouble is she gets so worked up so quickly that there's no reasoning with her, she answers (shouts!) no to everything - she doesn't even want a story!
have also considered putting her in room with her sister, could easily be that she thinks she's missing out by being in bed.

I think it's more to do with the clocks changing, i'd ride it out and have the same routine you have always had, she will get used to it.

My dd is 2 and a half and has played up a bit and has been really overtired, i've out it down to excitement because of the holidays, routine messed up because of the clocks, the fact there's been more going on and we've had day trips etc I'm not going to change anything she will just get used to it and calm back down soon enough (i hope)

hopefully it is down to clocks changing and we will be back to normal soon!! thanks for all your quick responses - feel better for reading them all!
