Eczema

Does anyone have a child with atopic eczema that isn't noticeably caused by anything specific like an allergy? I'm in this situation with my 5 month old. I don't think it's an allergy but it seems ti flare up without explanation. The waiting list for a dermatology appointment is three months which is a long time for an itchy baby to have to wait 😞

Yes!! Although DC is 2 - we managed it ok as a baby but it's getting seemingly worse and swimming lessons irritate it badly.

We're also waiting to see a dermatologist- the national eczema society website has lots of useful information.

For now though we smoother on epimax GP prescribed (but is available over the counter) and bath him in weleda baby shampoo and body wash as the only one I've found which DC does not note when I put on him.

We often find an change in season causes the flare up, so now as the weather is warmer, and the same thing will then happen as we get into winter.
Has the GP got you started on a routine for moisturiser/creams yet? I would think they can start you off on something while you wait for the dermatology appointment.

Hey 👋 my 4 month old had bad flare up of eczema a few weeks ago, came out of now where 🤷🏻‍♀️tried sudo cream, changed bubble bath etc but still wasn’t clearing, i started to use aveeno baby good night and aveeno baby lotion (before bed and in morning) (will attach pics of the ones i use) and her skin has gone completely back to normal, not even a hint of eczema, although i missed one night 2 nights ago (she was poorly so didn’t want to fuss her) and it started to creep back in but all fine again now.

DD2 has had eczema since a couple months old, and no apparent allergies.

If one emollient isn't working, you may need to try another one – it's quite individual what works. You also need to use it lots – DD2 gets her full body done twice a day, problem areas every nappy change, and that's not a particularly extreme routine. We did also need steroids to get on top of it at first, but very rarely now we've got a good routine.

Our emollient is also one that can be used instead of soap in the bath. In most cases, bathing once or twice a week is better for eczema than every day (and slather them in cream afterwards), although I know some children are the opposite.

Thank you. Although money is VERY tight on maternity leave right now, I want to give it a try. Anything to help my baby. How long does one tube last? X
