12 week old naps

Can I ask what your average day looks like with a 12 week old?

My LO has started sleeping from around 10-7 or 9-6.30 at night in her next to me without any wake ups (I’m shocked too, and have been checking on her all night!) is this normal for this age? I know it could be a growth spurt and then will all go to pot once 4 months hits.

The days are a bit trickier - although I feel as though I can’t complain due to the night sleep. She tends to wake, change, feed, play for around an hour and half before needing a nap again. However, she only contact naps and refuses to fall asleep in the pram, car seat or bouncer etc. She’s too busy looking around everywhere! Then gets over tired/stimulated and is very cranky. The only way she naps in the day is on me in a dark room with white noise or if I cover her eyes (not whole face) with a muslin whilst she drifts off in my arms. This is fine when we’re at home although it means that I am nap trapped half of the day, however I’m struggling to feel confident and I’m getting anxiety about going out anywhere alone as she won’t fall asleep once tired and just screams then. So I panic if she’s in the pram/car seat and I can’t settle her. Any thoughts? Is this also ‘normal’? How do you manage to get out and about or do much in the days?

All sounds normal to me. My ds5 started sleeping through at around 9 weeks.

Do you go to any mum and baby groups? That could help for you to feel less anxious about the baby crying, as your baby won't be the only one!

I've got a 5 week old as well and he has been sleeping 6 hours some nights!

@mrsed1987 no I haven’t been to any yet, I’ve felt too nervous and was worried she was too young to appreciate them! Have signed up for some next month :)

Give them ago. She isn't too young but they are more for mums when they are younger anyway! I started when my eldest was 5 weeks! Delayed a little this time as we have been poorly but yes highly recommended

Sounds completely normal to me.

I have a 10 week old and she has just gone through her 3 month growth spurt. During the day she will only ever sleep on me or in the carrier. She is going down at 6pm waking up twice in the night for feed (10:30pm and 2am ish). She has her morning poonami at 5-5:30 ish, has a feed then back down for another hour. She is well rested and happy when she wakes up so we do lots of activities in the morning, tummy time stories, singing, silly faces etc. then I take her for a long walk say about 10am. She sleeps most of the way (around 2hours) I live near the shopping centre so if she does wake we walk through it and look at the lights in the shops etc. she loves it! (Cheaper than baby sensory classes anyway!). She has her next nap after lunch around 2 for up to an hour (and I join her!). In the afternoon she is tired so I don't push it. She spends some time on her bouncy chair and she is happy enough watching me get on with some jobs. She is really curious, and will fight sleep. Late afternoon when she starts getting grizzly I give her a bath, she gets into her sleepsuit. Storytime, feed and then she falls asleep on me. That's pretty much it, rinse and repeat.

I'm looking forward to taking her to baby classes when she can sit up supported. Until then I don't know how much benefit she would get and put days are pretty full as it is.

Hope this helps.
