Is it wrong to spoon feed 2 year old?

22 month old picky eater. Did full BLW but now likes to be spoon/hand fed. If I don’t help him out, he has a few bites and then gets bored and gives up. I think once the initial hunger is satisfied, he can’t be bothered. But he’s not necessarily full or had enough to sustain him and he gets hangry not long after. If I spoon feed/hand feed him once he starts to lose interest, he then eats a really decent meal. He still lets me know when he’s done so I’m not forcing him to eat. Feeding him this way has also led to him trying some different flavours.

However, I’m aware that he’s fast approaching 2 and I feel like this is maybe a bad habit? He can feed himself fine, he can use a fork and a spoon and he feeds himself at nursery.

Anyone else do the same? Do I need to go cold turkey or do I just go with it for now?

Friends 4yo has been ill this past week and is still in a grumpy post-illness state. He asked me to hand-feed him a jam sandwich earlier! He's more than capable of doing it himself, but if it gets some food into him and he wants to feel babied a bit, why not. He won't still be asking to be hand-fed by an adult when he's 12 I'm sure.

I have exactly the same issue with my just turned 2yo and yes I do spoon feed him if needed. He's reached the stage where he wants everything fast paced and loading his own utensils just isn't fast enough. Sometimes I just preload a spoon/fork and set it down on the table for him like I used to when he was 6mo, but other times I'll spoon-feed him.

I put some boundaries in place (mostly for myself!) that I just leave him to it at breakfast and snacks but I'll help him out at lunch and dinner if I feel he's just getting frustrated/distracted rather than being full.

I don't spoon feed my 2 yo but I do load the fork for him, because otherwise the veg would never get eaten! Really trying to get away from this habit as well. Mine also does like to be babied, but I'm hoping when he's a little bigger he'll do it himself.

I think there's a balance somewhere about extra assistance and food intake.
