Concerned about 6 month olds development

Hi all,

I was hoping you could advise or just talk me down. I'm concerned about my 6 month olds development/meeting of milestones.

Around 4 month old he rolled in both directions and has not done it since. He shows no interest in rolling but does twist from side to side. He grabs his toes when lying on his back. I have tried everything to entice him to roll but he is uninterested.

He can sit unassisted for a few minutes if I put him in the sitting position but does not pull himself up to sit.

When in tummy time he does not pull himself up or bare any weight onto his forearms and can't spend longer than few moments in tummy time. He can't reach for toys when on tummy but does when on his back.

He can't bare any weight onto his legs and instead draws his legs up into a frog legged position.

He used to babble, take turns making sounds but now he doesn't.

TIA for your help.

Yes, I would take him to see the GP.

DD2 is 6 months next week. She is similar but she can only roll from front to back though but rarely does and didn't until 5 months.

This last week she has started sitting if I put her in the seated position. She babbles a lot, sometimes it sounds like she is saying Mam. She's very good with her hands though, can feed herself etc. She does bare weight well on her legs.

DD1 rolled earlier (but rarely did), sat a bit later. She couldn't get herself into the seated position until she was approx 8 months. Didn't crawl until 9 months.

Is now a very active and clever 4 year old. My point is they all do things at a different pace. I would call the HV rather than the doctor if your concerned, have you had the 6 month check? X

He hasn't had a 6 month check. The Health Visitor does not come out til 9 month in my area. Is the 6 month check through GP or HV?

My daughter rolled once or twice at 4 months then not again until 6-7 months and then rolled continuously. She has since followed this tread when she has learnt everything. She might do something once but she won't do it reliably until she has cracked it. She was cruising furniture at 9 months but actively refused to walk until about 14 months and she ran the next day.

We had concerns at 4 months, we first raised concerns at 8 weeks as she wasn't turning to sounds or smiling. It was only when she still wasn't doing these things at 4 months and she was in the concerning category across the board it was acted on. For her it was due to the distress of under treated reflux and undiagnosed food allergies and she just was in too much distress to engage with the world. Within a month she was perfectly average

There is an assessment for every month age of child. HV generally do periodic reviews but you can usually contact them and they will come out and do a review. I think my daughter had every assessment between 8 weeks and 9 months! She then had 12, 18 and 24 months assessments too! The default in our areas is 8 weeks, 9 months and 2 years. We had regular appointments due to my daughters reflux and my pnd. We had the 18 months assessment as her language was regressing so we contacted the HV team to have her reviewed.

It was through the HV. Our HV is very helpful x
