Hello,
I just wanted to make people aware of our journey with our beautiful 11 month old baby boy who suffers from CMPA and also had tongue tie.
We have 2 children and our second (now 11 months), has had an awful first 11 months of life. From when he was born he hasn't been comfortable, he was diagnosed with Bronchitis when he was 2 weeks old, from then on there wasn't a month that went by where he wasn't in hospital. He was diagnosed with reflux, colic, croup, gastroenteritis - you name it.
Each day he would scream for hours and hours, never sleeping for longer than 30 minutes at a time, I was told this was just colic and it would pass. During this point I also had to look after my 2 year old son, so life felt like it was getting the better of me. I would break down A LOT, and felt so much mom guilt for my toddler. My mom was amazing and would help out.
At 12 weeks old I took our baby to a tongue tie specialise who said he had the worst case of tongue tie she'd ever seen and the following week it was snipped.
From this point I thought it was going to be a turning point, but our little one constantly suffered with congestion, breathing problems, hives, runny nose etc and despite asking doctors if it was CMPA I was told it wasn't.
After a few more hospital says and months of sleepless nights, constantly driving our little one around in the car for hours during the night just so that he could get some sleep - I booked a private allergy test and it came back that he has CMPA. Since this moment we cut all dairy out of his diet, switched his milk to Neocate, he has been a completely different child.
Our little one was overlooked because he gained weight and didn't look like a miserable baby.
If your little one seems to always have a cold, cough and seems to have phlegm all of the time, I urge you get an allergy test. It might be nothing, or it might be everything. The quality of my babies life has drastically changed, i'm told that the milk ladder journey is a long way off for my little one because of how severe his allergy is, but we're on the road to a better path.
Also, if you know anyone who's baby has CMPA, give them a hug, take their screaming baby off them for a few hours and let them have a moment to breathe.
