Haircuts for bigger children

Where do you take your 11 year old DD for a haircut?
I take DSs to the barbers, (or their dad does) I can get the boys hair cut for a tenner!
When they were all tiny they'd go to the children's hair salon and sit in a little car and watch Peppa pig videos but I think she's a bit big for that now!
And after that she wanted it long so I just used to trim it myself, but now she wants a layered style I daren't take on.
Do I take DD to the hairdressers and pay (gulp) their prices? Or do they have prices for children? What do you do?

Yes, it's paying the <gulp> here for a decent haircut

My hairdresser has a price for children. It’s cheaper because they spray hair with water rather than shampoo it and children obviously have a smaller head with less hair.

You could take her to super cuts or similar for a cheap hair cut if it's only a basic trim?

Trawl round the local hairdressers to see if any do kids prices - they may have restrictions on when you can book, but it is a bit more palatable price wise!

I take my DD to the same salon that I go to but they just do a dry cut on her rather than a cut and blow dry so it's a bit cheaper. I usually book a double appointment so they can do us one after the other. She doesn't have layers or anything cut in though, it's only ever a trim off the ends.

TinyYellow · 10/05/2024 16:45

You could try any colleges near you that do hairdressing for inexpensive cuts, this is the right time of year for there to be lots of competent students who are nearly qualified and they’re always supervised.

MintTwirl · 10/05/2024 16:47

Yeah ds with long hair goes to the hairdressers, he always has done tbh. They are usually a bit cheaper for kids as it’s a dry cut.

Anoisagusaris · 10/05/2024 16:48

I’ve never gone to a kids hairdressers with any of mine. Always been a regular hairdresser or barbers. They have kids prices.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 10/05/2024 16:59

SuperCuts or the like where you can turn up and wait your turn. They have prices for children and you don't have to have the whole wash and blow-dry thing, which makes it cheaper still.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 10/05/2024 17:05

My DD goes to the same salon as me. They charge me £27 for her (Cut and blowdry). (I pay £50)

AngryLikeHades · 10/05/2024 17:18

This might not be suitable, but have you thought about a hair and beauty college? I get mine done there and have for years. There are alot of people around, including teachers and they oversee everything. You can also choose the level of the student.

ExplodingCarrots · 10/05/2024 17:18

My hairdresser charges me £12.50 for my 10 year old DDs haircut which is about £10 less than mine . That's including a trim and some shaping around the face .

AngryLikeHades · 10/05/2024 17:19

They do everything that a normal hairdresser would with treatments and all sorts.

dementedpixie · 10/05/2024 17:21

My dd goes to my hairdresser. If she just gets a dry cut it's fairly inexpensive. I trim her fringe on occasion and have cut the back before as well as its just a straight across cut she has.

Xmasbaby11 · 10/05/2024 17:22

Normal hairdresser, child's rate, which is a third of adult rate. It's a good price tbh - DD 12 is and has masses of curly hair. I'm not sure her head is much / at all smaller than an adult's!

SomeoneelsessFault · 10/05/2024 17:26

DD goes to the same hairdresser as me and always has. She has children's prices that increase with age, DD is 10 and £17 if she wants it plaited after, or £22 if she wants it blow dried. Mine is £45. Adult prices charged for over 16s. Definitely find one with children's prices!
