Double buggy experiences

I'm due my second child in September, DS1 will be 2 at the end of October. I have a few questions.
I was first thinking I wouldn't need a double buggy and would put newborn in a sling and use the pushchair for DS1 but now I'm thinking what if I need to man handle DS1 into the pushchair or save him from doing something dangerous at a park, I won't be able to do that with a baby strapped to me.

With double buggies are the side by side, or one seat in front of the other better in anyone's experience?

I have thought about a buggy board but it looks like you the have to walk to the side of the pram to push it? Plus the wheels don't look great on any of them. Unless anyone has any good.ones to recommend?

I had a just turned 2 year old and a 1 year old.

Initially I got a side by side double, but it wouldn't fit through my front door, and that was an issue when the baby fell asleep on walks etc.

So I bought a tandem, we have only recently sold it, in the last few months (now 3.5 and 1.5) - it was used a lot in the early days!!

The sling was also used, but that was mainly at home, when we were out and about we used the pram!

@pinkunicorns54 ahhh thank you, I hadn't even thought about my own front door!
Do you mind me asking which tandem one you used?

We had the egg! We got it second hand on market place! And sold it on for £25 less than we bought it for!

I had a Phil and Ted's (one seat in front of the other). It was relatively compact and nice to have both dcs sitting properly (and sometimes napping) for long walks rather than perched on a buggy board. I was able to negotiate lots of narrow spaces where you wouldn't be able to take a double buggy - a bus with 2 buggies already on board, streets with lots of outdoor seating taking up half the pavement, small independent shops and cafes with shelves and tables crammed in.

I think a double buggy as opposed to a buggy board will definitely be worth it at that age, and agree that an in line rather than side by side will probably be easier to manoeuvre.

My age gap was 2.5 years but I kept DC1 in the buggy and used a sling for about 6 months, so DC1 went on to the buggy board consistently from about 3.
