My dc is 6, will be 7 in November. Advanced reader according to teacher. Shes currently at year 2 standard, possibly nearing year 3. Please can you recommend books for her to read? I've read on another thread that some posters children are reading Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl, which of their books would be suitable for 6 or 7 year olds please?

The Amelia Fang books are great and quite simple.

With Ronald Dahl, try Fantastic Mr Fox or The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me.

Surely you should ask her teacher? She would know what level your child can manage or take her to a library and chose herself

Normally they choose books they like in their school library and when you take them to the library

I've asked and not got anywhere with her teacher unfortunately. The teacher is newly qualified from what i gather, so she's just sticking to the bare minimum from the looks of it. I don't really want to push it, my child is just 1 out of 30 for them. I might ask her y2 teacher (if we get a decent one) next academic year.

Hi OP. I'm sorry you had such unhelpful responses from @Laurahenry and @StripeySoc . I'm sure the idea of a library had occurred to you 🙄 but it's helpful to have some ideas of what to look for.

Other suggestions:

Anna Claybourne has a factual series called Tiny Science which is really good for that age.

The Kitty series by Paula Harrison and the Isadora Moon series

Marnie Midnight (same author as Amelia Fang). She has another series called Rainbow Grey which is really good but possibly skews slightly older.

Hope that helps.

I’d recommend just going to a bookshop and flicking through books with interesting covers to gauge how difficult they are and then picking some that you think will interest your daughter (even if this is later on Amazon or at the library). I often find myself in Waterstones having a look inside various books to see how hard they are as it’s much quicker than looking at previews on Amazon.

There is so much out there now, and in honesty the “best” books are the books your daughter wants to read.
