Advise on nappy wraps please!

Got our first baby due at the end of April. I want to use reusable nappies and have started to get some. I've got some motherease cloth nappies and some onelife ones as well as the traditional terries. However I'm not sure what wraps are best/suitable. My mum has got me some waterproof pants from boots for use over terry nappies. Are these ok for these nappies or do I need something more effective? Any advise useful, didn't realise that reuseable nappies was such an in depth subject!

Well I'll start the ball rolling and say get Motherease wraps - either Airflow (popper fit) or Rikki (velcro fit). I bet lots of others will agree they are the best wraps out there for the majority of people. The Rikki wrap will be better for your terry squares as it is a tighter fit and will hold the terry fold in place better. The airflow wrap is very adjustable and allows the nappy underneath to breathe.

The waterproof pants are OK but you'll find the PUL (polyurathane Laminate) wraps which are more commonly used these days more effective, and probably more comfortable against your baby's skin around the legs and waist. They are great for keeping as spares in your change bag though and you may find at first that you need to change the wraps a bit more often than you will later on so they might well come in quite handy.

It sounds as though your mum's already on the case, and mum's have a wealth of advice and experience! I've always used terry nappies on my DC, and there's nothing wrong with plastic pants from Boots, or Mothercare imo.

Motherease Rikki gets my vote too but I guess it depends on your DCs shape and size. Try the waterproof pants, they might be ok, you could borrow some other wraps from other mums when your baby is born and see which ones work well.

I recently got one of these for DD (they come in lots of coloursapart from shocking pink!) and it seems very well made and comfortable on her.

Motherease are very good but not the be-all and end-all imo

I am another lover of Motherease Rikki. I would try the waterproof pants though as I suspect they would be fine whilst your dc is very tiny and look out for some second hand wraps to try.

Good luck!!

Hi - I started with terries and waterproof pants on my newborn. Only prob I had was poo containment - it wasn't good with runny bf poo and often leaked onto the leg of the pants (but it might have been that I didn't fold them in the best way!!). I moved onto One Life and Motherease one size nappies which contain poo brilliantly. Having said that even though they are one size they would have been waaaayy to bulky on my newborn (terries were bad enough!). It would probably be a good idea to use muslins for the first few weeks as these are much less bulky on a tiny newborn. Good luck for when the baby arrives !

Motherease or onelife wraps are great

Thanks everyone for useful advise. I'll have a go with the ones I have at first but look to get some reasonable secondhand motherease rikki ones as soon as I can. Just have to have a go ... and see what suits. Exciting stuff!!

I'd just like to say the question of poo containment or leakage is down to the type of nappy fold you use, and not the plastic pants imo. In the main I've used the kite fold on my DC, and with the edges tucked up have rarely had any serious leakage problems. It's important to make sure all the nappy is inside the pants. Find a nappy fold that best suits you. There are loads to have fun experimenting with. It's worth while having a look at the nappy lady website.
