What do you do with the stuff your baby and kid have outgrown?

My 3-year-old and 1-year-old have outgrown a lot of their clothes and gear (stroller, cot, baby carrier, baby bjorn bouncer chair). What do you do with yours? I don't have time to resell, and all my friends already have kids!

Holding on to what we want for a possible second child. Donating anything else to charity or to local groups/clothes swap meet-ups. Selling the occasional item that we're not keeping but is worth a bit of money. Facebook marketplace has been the easiest way to do that for us.

Local baby bank
Local free group on Facebook
Charity shops
Vinted
NCT sale

I try and get rid of stuff every couple of months so it's not taking up too much space

Domestic violence shelters
Charity shops
Friends.

When my daughter has outgrown clothes I split it into two things I want to keep or pass on to people close to me and things that get passed on to anyone. We have been undecided about a second and I decided I would refind some items of clothes than have an unmanageable amount to sort out once we were finished.
Store sentimental or items with potentially some value to deal with another day.
Then look into options for giving away clothes and toys these for me are the things that clutter my rooms and my mind. What clothes are only fit for textile recycling and which are suitable for baby banks and similar and set up 3 bags each time they out grow clothes one for keep, one for textile recycling and one for baby bank or similar. Once the 1y slows down outgrowing clothes start tackling the younger baby stuff. My daughter is slow growing and since being in 9-12m clothes ages 2 it was been a lot easier to work through the clothes as the outgrown stuff is accumulating at a slower rater. Every 3-4 months I like to have an hour or so sorting out a bag of stuff to leave the house. It's much more manageable this way. When my in-laws come to visit for the weekend is often my sorting time. I get some time without the small person and they get some time with her without me hovering

have you had a good experience selling on Facebook marketplace? I've had a large share of time wasters and a few scammers. And I've spent so much time dealing with price haggling. Maybe just bad luck?

Hoard them.
Anything in good condition we have kept in storage and the younger ones used them after older siblings. If worn out they've been disposed of. Saved us a lot of money over the years with the girls.
We have 1 boy, I kept all clothes up to 2yr then just nicest stuff after that as I did hope we'd have another boy but we had 4 girls after him. Now those things are in a cupboard behind a wardrobe so I just cba to get them out. If we needed money or wanted to convert the loft I'd sell them but atm feel that is more hassle than the value of selling.

SpringBunnies · 07/05/2024 17:38

I sold or gave them away. I don't want to see them in my garage or the loft. It's just more junk I'd have to deal with later.

SpringBunnies · 07/05/2024 17:40

@ny247 same experience. I only do cash on collection so no scammers. Just a lot of time waster. That's why I usually just give them to a charity job as it's the easiest. Or I take it to the household recycling center. They have a reuse shed.

ohthejoys21 · 07/05/2024 22:46

Gave most to charity but kept a few things to help me remember their babyhood. They are now young adults and each have a box of precious things which I will give them when they leave home.

So on FB marketplace after the description and pricing the item cheaper than the competition, I always state:

'On other sites. Cash only. Please no time wasters. I will sell to the person who can pick it up first.'

I have found less procrastinators / piss takers with this.

I tried selling on Vinted. I didn't get a great price. I sold a couple of things on FB marketplace. I would say, it just takes a lot of effort if you want to do that.

I picked up a flyer in our neighbourhood for new service: www.rekiddle.com. I might give it a try and see if it's easier.

I give a lot away on the local freebay group. Some particularly nice items I sell on Vinted
