Strange shoulder shrugs/arms up? 10 months?

so my 10.5 month old has been doing something very strange, at first I thought it was on purpose but tonight we had a late night, got home well after bedtime and he done it multiple times what seemed like involuntary.

basically, he puts his arms up above his head, grimaces and sucks his belly in. His little face goes red and sometimes he laughs afterwards and does it again if we do it back to him.

anyway I lay him down to change him before putting him to bed and he done it repeatedly about 9 times, I was trying to change him fast because it was so late so i wasn’t even giving it attention and he kept doing it over and over and it looked quite worrying to be honest. Could it be a tic developing or is he just teething and getting his stress out 😅 I’m trying not to worry because these things are usually just us mums overthinking but it did worry me that he done it so many times in a row. Now I feel terrible for keeping him up late ☹️

No idea sorry OP. Hopefully you'll get some responses soon Flowers

If it happens again, try to take some video so thst you can show your GP. It could be that he is having dome seizures. Please get him checked out properly. Good luck

I hate to say but it does perhaps sound like seizures. Although I am no expert. Get some videos, take to gp/hospital and don’t take no for an answer to get him checked over asap. I’d probably phone the nhs line if I were you or go to a&e.

Meant to add @soosal please check out some videos online of seizures. But don’t take any risks and get home seen to.

Definitely get it checked out. My DD started having infantile spasms at that age - it looked as if she was sticking her hands in the air.
As a PP says, video it. I’d take him to A&E rather than the GP, as it needs to be investigated ASAP - if it is infantile spasms, the earlier the treatment starts, the better.

How’s your son doing, @soosal ?

soosal · 10/06/2024 16:36

Hi all, sorry I completely forgot about this post. We took him to the doctor as quite a few of you mentioned seizures! Showed his doctor the videos, apparently we have a comedian on our hands because the doctor said he was just playing and he recently started doing it every time we say “yayyy”. So that’s that. We just have a very funny little boy thank god!

Thanks for the update @soosal
That is pretty funny. These kids do mess with us!
Glad all is ok.
