1 year old buckle fracture to leg

Arghh I'm feeling so miserable. My 12 month old slipped on the kitchen floor this morning and twisted her leg awkwardly - I knew it was bad at soon as it happened, and my heart is broken for her that she now can't weight bear on that leg. She has been xray'd and we've been told it's a buckle fracture to her tibia. No cast, no follow up, hopefully 3 weeks and she will be on her feet again.

Does anyone have any experience of these fractures? How long until your child could weight bear again? She's such an active little one and she is already absolutely fuming that she can't follow her brother around or dance in the kitchen. Also, how long until I stop wanting to cry every time she winces?! I have got a healthy dose of mum guilt at the moment 😭

My daughter had a buckle fracture on her forearm, she fell off her bike when she was 10 said her arm hurt but no swelling n wasn’t complaining all weekend about it, school sent her home on the Monday and advised to take her for Xray and found buckle fracture, i felt so terrible that i hadn’t noticed lol anyway she did have a cast for 3 weeks and didn’t need to go back in to have it removed. was told to just take it off after 3 weeks, she wanted it off n was saying her wrist felt better after one week, but i said no lol she removed it after 2.5 weeks as it started unwrapping on its own and was completely fine xx

My 3YO has a buckle fracture on his wrist. Temporary plaster for a week, then fracture clinic took it off and said splint for 2-4 weeks. Initially he was a bit subdued, it’s been a week now with the splint and he’s tearing around as normal again and is climbing up the climbing frame again, riding his scooter to preschool etc like all is fine! We take it off for a bath which the doctor okayed but he does complains it hurts if he stays in there too long. But seems like it’s healing well.

My daughter fractured her tibia too, aged 21 months. It healed SO quickly. She did have a cast, which after a few days she was able to hobble around on but she was completely back to normal after 4 weeks. I remember the mum guilt so well, I definitely thought she'd be older before broken bones became a worry but these things happen - try not to beat yourself up. She will be as good as new in no time 💐

I bought her a few new toys and Colouring books etc to keep her busy while she couldn't move, and we got lots of new books from.the library.
