Just wondered if anyone knew of any kids science experiments for younger children. DS is almost 5 and really enjoys watching the experiments on Tv. Think he would love it more if he got to try it himself

I love the soap and pepper experiment. It's really easy to set up, and there's no need to buy anything as it's very likely you already have everything at home.

The website also has loads more to choose from, so it should keep you and your DS busy for a while. 🙂

We love a good explosion, so coke and mentoes or vinegar and bicarb volcano. Also fun is boiling red cabbage then put the water in different pots. It changes different colours if you add acid or alkaline.

Egg submerged in vinegar for a few days until the shell dissolves

Water from boiling a few red cabbage leaves can be used as a pH indicator so you can test things like water, washing up liquid, soap, vinegar, lemon juice, sauce etc etc

You can make slime with shampoo and salt or with cornflour or custard powder and water and observe a non-Newtonian liquid

Compare ice cubes melting with and without salt

Put a drop of food colouring into a shallow dish filled with milk and watch what happens when you then put a drop of washing up liquid in at the opposite side

Thanks everyone! So many ideas that I know he will be fascinated with.
