Needing advice about social services

Hi
I'm just looking for some advice. My lb (2 years) was in A&E last week because he managed to find a vape refil liquid and told me he drunk it (my husband was 99% sure it was empty) but we took him to hospital to be safe. It turns out he was fine and didn't drink any. Today I received a call from the health visitor just checking to see he was okay which he is. I'm absolutely fine with that but now I'm panicking that they are going to call social services or something and I'm starting to work my self up. It's something I thought about when he did it and now the HV has called its made me think it even more. Does anyone have any advice or reassurance? Nothing has ever happened like this before and I have had stern words with my husband about throwing them away. Sorry for the long post ❤️

They might do a home visit to ensure your home is safe for a child and reiterate potential dangers and the importance of having things like vape liquids up high out of reach, but if there's no other concerns and it was a genuine one off accident, I wouldn't worry

I wouldn't worry, social services get called all the time, if a child reports at A&E a certain amount if times, random people reports ect if they do they will either call and chat, pop over and chat then close it.

My friend had them turn up after a report of a bruise, but it was foundation the kiddo got into so wasnt there as was wiped off 😂

Hi
im assuming the health visitor knew as the hospital referred, it may be that it was passed to this service rather than social services. With current funding issues there is a high threshold for SS involvement. If they were to be concerned as a PP said it would likely be a visit and then closed, I doubt it would even go to assessment.

Health visitors/school nurses get notified of all children attending hospital, follow up for certain types of incident is routine. I had a Hv visitor after we were at A&E twice in a week; once DD swallowed a coin and once she got a cup of tea on her.

It’s routine.
I had the HV call the first time my daughter was in an ambulance following her first unknown seizure, (she was epileptic- so not the same thing or worry) but honestly they are doing their job and unless you come on the radar again I doubt you will hear from them again.

Don't worry, it's normal for the hv to be informed and for them to ring you. The HV or the hospital would have told you if they were referring to social services for something like this.

Thanks all for the reassurance, you've definitely put my mind at rest. Like a lot of mums I worry far too much and always think the worst!
