Chickenpox vaccine

Is it feasible/ humane to get the 1 year vaccines and then an hour or two later do chickenpox? I think the only other option is to wait 4 weeks before getting chickenpox (has to be same day or 28 days after MMR), but I'd rather protection started asap and figure it's the same number of shots. Can't do them all together though I don't think as 1 year vaccines need to be at GP surgery and chickenpox is private.... Any suggestions welcome!

wait

marzipanlover81 · 01/05/2024 15:14

all in the space of a day is simply too much

I'd wait. Chickenpox is also 2 vaccines months apart

1 year vaccines are 4 jabs. I'd do chicken pox a month later

It's probably doable (though I don't know about a medical point of view), but you'd have one very, very miserable baby. Don't do it.

Ask your GP what they would advise.

Superdrug allows chickenpox jab from 9 months

You can privately try to get the MMRV but I would just wait a month. The MMR alone isn’t pleasant and often has a delayed reaction.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 01/05/2024 16:17

I would wait. My DD was quite ill after MMR at different points over 1-3 weeks. I think the chicken pox jab on top would be too much. She's also had that and was a little unwell around 7 days later x

You're not allowed. My son had chickenpox vaccine and one of the questions was if he'd had any jabs recently. I'd wait

Chiaseedz · 01/05/2024 19:34

Thanks, medically you are allowed if it's the same day, so it's more about what's best - earlier protection Vs 5 jabs in a day!!!!

That’s a lot of jabs. I’d wait, I wouldn’t want to get jabbed that many times, would you?

DD has had the chicken pox jab, we went to Superdrug.

I wouldn't do more than 4 injections in a day. Doing 4 means 1 in each limb. So when you go for the 5th it will be in a sore and achy limb even a few hours later.

My mum had 3 injections this winter, 2 in the same arm with the second her arm tensed up and she then couldn't move the arm for 2 days! She got checked out and I think a few other people must have had a similar reaction as when her sister went for the same 3 injections a few weeks later they changed the policy and they could only do 2, one in each arm and she had to rearrange the 3rd.

For me it would be the number of needle sticks per limb that I would be looking at rather than total number of vaccines given. I understand wanting to get them done in one go though. My daughter had to have her 1 year jab one at a time. It took 6 months to get them all as there were a few appointment delays and it was a long 6 month! She came down with chicken pox the same week as her MMR so we didn't look at getting that vaccine too.

Medically it’s fine for same day.

My experience: DD1 had the MMRV abroad at 1YO and then for her preschool booster, when she would have had the second MMRV if we hadn’t have moved back to the UK, I took her to a private GP and she had the MMR, a separate chickenpox and whatever the other one is in one appointment so it can be done. DS had the MMR on the NHS then we waited a month as advised and went to Boots as is typical here. I don’t think I could face the GP appointment then off to the pharmacy in the same day plus just seems harsh for baby prolonging it like that. So I’d either risk the month and hope for the best or do private GP for all.
