2yr7mo walking distances/longer periods for holiday

Hi all,

We'll be going on holiday over the BH weekend and we usually take the pushchair for areas that involve more walking than usual, we'd be in an area which isn't very accessible to cars easily so will be more walking involved than the usual day.

Just looking for advice for when she gets tired and how to deal with the travelling, she's larger than average with her height so her current foldable pram is off limits and we like to encourage walking rather than a pushchair.

We stick to a really good routine throughout the week but we're flexible for special events or holidays, due to excitement the schedule is always up in the air!
We can carry her short distances, it;s the times she hits overtired immediately and I have no way to jump in a car (sans pushchair) to get her home quickly and put her down for a nap that I'm anxious about.

Any creative solutions to carry her more easily (3.5 stone and 1.05m tall, I have a 5"2 frame) or advice on safe ways to let her sleep when we're out on the move and can't make it back to accommodation quick enough by foot.

Thanks :)

Just wondering if there's a typo in your title – 2yr7months or 3yr7months? 3.5 stone and 1.05 is very high centiles even for 3.7, but it's way over the 99.6th centile for 2.7.

Potentially look into a preschool carrier – see if you have a sling library near you so you can try some out. The Tula ones are very popular, but there are others out there, and some have a 'hood' bit that you can fasten if they fall sleep to support their head. We're looking into a LennyLamb one that has this to help with our buggy-refusing two year old, but haven't actually tried it yet.

To cover more distance, will she go on a balance bike or scooter? Balance bike is better over rough ground, but the scooter you can pull her along or put your hand on her back and push. Our buggy-refuser has travelled a lot by scooter, from well before she was two.

I'm not sure I really understand the problem with the buggy, which is surely the easiest solution?

Agree with pp that a scooter is an excellent alternative for when legs are tired and you need to get somewhere quickly.

In terms of letting her sleep out and about, just find somewhere suitable...by the pool, on a towel on the beach, stop for a meal/coffee somewhere with comfy seating and let her have a nap there. I can't see why it would be unsafe for her to nap in any of these place as along as you exercise common sense.

Take a buggy. Might not be the most helpful advice but having travelled a lot with kids, its my best advice.

Just use a pram. Most prams are fine at 105cm still. My just 4 year old is that height and he still fits ( we will use abroad soon for same reasons)

Ate you sure she’s 3.5 stone? That’s 22kg which seems huge for a 2 and half year old regardless of height. Ds is around 104-105cm and just scrapping 15kg at 4 years. I have been checking for car seat weights.

I’m confused why you wouldn’t just bring a pushchair? If the rest of her normal routine is being disrupted, there’s no reason not to make an exception for the pushchair as well.

J would just take a buggy.
