Nappy rash - help!

hi ladies
my DD is 6 months and today I noticed she has awful nappy rash. Something she has never suffered from even as a newborn.
I do use wipes to get the worst off and then use cotton wool and water for the delicate areas always have done and she’s been fine.

i noticed it changing her out and about today so put some cream on. Since getting home and doing another nappy change it seems to have gotten worse again.

DD has been pooping more lately, has just started solids and was showing signs of teething previously.

the solids she has only been having for one week. I gave her one Ella’s kitchen pouch this week (everything else has been freshly made) as a friend had bought it for me but I noticed it has lemon juice in - I’m wondering if the acid from this could have caused the rash?

i change nappies regularly however, at night time I don’t because DD sleeps through the night. So she will have a nappy change at 5:30-6pm ready for bedtime and then she usually wakes around the same times which is when I have a chance to change her nappy next and I always make sure it’s the first thing I do. She does get nappy free time in the morning as welll.

should I be waking DD to change nappy through the night?
did anyone else notice a bad rash after starting solids or would this not be related at all?

really upset as I’ve always tried so hard to make sure she doesn’t get anything like this and hate thinking that she’s uncomfortable and can’t tell me.

Aw it's horrible isn't it! DS has always been prone to nappy rash. I use loads of sudacrem as a barrier cream, and if it flares up, I use sudasalve. Everyone recommends the yellow metanium, but it didn't work for me.

@neleh87 Awful!!! I just feel so terrible… feel like it’s my fault completely!

yeah I use bepanthen on the noonie area and then I use sudocfeam on the bum, always have done and it’s always worked well. I cream at every single nappy change too.

@shellyleppard thanks hun. I can’t help but think it is the solids. Saw that Ella’s kitchen pouches have lots of lemon juice in so I can only think it’s that.

shes has gone through the night without nappy changes for a couple of months now.

yeah nappy free time is a must and something we do quite often just going to do a bit more for her over the next couple of days and I think will just change her nappy through the night tonight just to be safe as don’t want it to get worse.

If it doesn’t clear up, see your GP or even OOH. DD had this and it was an infection, it was awful as nothing over the counter was making any difference and she was in a lot of pain.

Definitely the yellow metanium, the trick is to apply it THINLY so you can still see the skin texture through - it feels counter-intuitive I know, like more should be better, but trust me, makes all the difference. Change nappy at night for a poo, not for wees though, unless it's super full its not necessary ime (and even then it's worth going for a stealth change - clean nappy underneath, whip the dirty one out and bundle 'em back up before they realise!).
