Hey, new here!
My LB (age 4) has recently been referred to S&L therapy by preschool, who knows how long the wait will be to be seen… anyway, since then a family member has mentioned maybe getting his ears checked as it could be glue ear, small ear canal, etc. (struggles with letter pronunciation and shouts all the time), has anyone ever had this and found it is more a ear problem rather than an actual speech issue?
He starts school in Sept, and he is conscious when around new people incase they don’t understand what he’s saying, I just don’t want him to go to school and it effect him!

Not quite the same but my non verbal 3 year old has been referred by SLT for a hearing test (10 month waiting list!!). I have been considering getting him checked for glue ear too. It's definitely worth going to your GP and getting the ENT referral for that.
As a Reception teacher, I have also taught many children who had finished or had ongoing speech therapy and the glue ear/hearing test was always mentioned as part of their investigations. Many of them actually had the glue ear too.
I'm not sure if this applies to every area but many schools in England actually test all the children's speech and language when they start school too. It's increasingly common for children to have some issue so don't worry at all about him standing out or not getting support there :)

Hi. One of my boys had massive tonsils which was affecting his speech, this was picked up at speech therapy, instant referral to get them removed and he never looked back. The other boy had glue ear and needed grommets, again as soon as this was sorted his speech came on leaps and bounds! Worth checking out..

This happens all the time. SALTs will often recommend getting hearing checks, it’s definitely worth doing.

Thank you!
I think I am going to take him, even if it isn’t his ears at least it rules it out x

Totally agree with testing for glue ear and hearing.

Since you're worried about the wait, there are loads of resources to give you ideas to help at home while you're waiting for the professional eg Speech and Language UK:
