15 month old and sudden pimply rash on face

Hi everyone. I’m baffled and asking the mums of mumsnet if they have any clues what this is on my sons face? He’s 15 months old, never had any allergies (that we know of yet anyway), never had any skin issues apart from some dribble rash on his chest as when he was a baby he was a MASSIVE drooler.

To me it looks exactly how baby acne does, he never had this either but his older brother did. I would say we noticed it maybe 4/5 days a go and it just seems to get intense at different moments, worse possibly when he’s warm or just had a breastfeed (so the side he laid on gets worse).

I went to the doctors with him yesterday because 2 days a go he did come down with a bit of a bug (runny nose, threw up a few times, gone completely off his food, very lethargic, high temp) and they gave him antibiotics as a precaution.

Someone mentioned slapped cheek syndrome because it is also a little on his chest too (looks like the dribble rash he used to have but way more intense) but I thought the rash came after the other symptoms? This seems to have been the opposite way around. I don’t know, I’m just absolutely baffled by it.

You can see in one photo how it goes quite red and then the next minute almost gone but still visible as little pin prick spots.

Looks like slapped cheek (parvovirus). It’s rife here, my kids and I have had it, and loads of friends.

Look out for an all-over rash soon.

@ProfessorPeppy Hi thank you for your reply. Am I right in thinking the slapped cheek rash can come and go for a bit? I think I read heat can make it worse too. I’m a little anxious as I’m 20 weeks pregnant and unsure if I’ve ever had it before!

@L00k4m3x No idea, but in that case I’d get checked out by GP, pregnant women need to be seen if exposed to parvovirus.
