Nurseries - do you go in to collect child?

DS is 14 months and been at nursery for 12 months

Drop off and collection is to go into the baby room and hand them over where all the other babies are.

The nursery states a no phone policy when we visited to view originally but this doesn't seem to apply when we drop off and pick up. I could be getting my phone out taking photos , yes there are staff around in the room. Babies often approach me and I'm cautious as to not touch other peoples children.

Having spoken to a few friends they all collect from the door and not allowed in.

Just wanted to find out if this is the norm and should i raise with the nursery? They have sent out a parent survey today

@LittleCarrot12 you are allowed in to drop off and pick up with your mobile on you. when i visited originally to view, phones had to be handed over to the office. So doesn't make sense ?

I feel like dropping and collecting at the door seems the safest for the babies?

Of course it makes sense. Who wants to hand phone in twice a day and get it handed back to them? Vs just once in a tour.

There is no way I’d leave my phone . How bizarre. Although in 8 years of collecting/dropping off I’ve never felt the need to take my phone out.

Personally, I wouldn’t use a nursery that don’t allow me to see my child in the setting. I was happy when they were babies to look in from the door of the room .

We drop off at the door - they found it better for kids settling after doing it during Covid - but pick up from the room. I wouldn't be happy never going into the nursery. Also helps staff as not got to keep getting cover for ratio to take a child to the door.

Mobile phones we had to hand in for the tour/settling session as we were there an hour etc. but they don't for pickup and in and out in 5 mins and would cause queues at the office as many parents pick up a similar time.

However you can't have your phone out and the staff will mention it - I've not thought before and went to get it out to show them the nursery photographer pics

Post covid we dropped and collected at the door. These days we drop at the door but go in to collect which I think is much nicer.

They are very strict about no phones for both staff and parents. Staff have to hand them in I believe, but parents just have to keep them in their pockets.
