where to shop for clothes for dd8

I'm really struggling to find suitable clothes for my (just turned) 8 year old dd

She gets easily overwhelmed with the choice in shops and finds Internet shopping just as much of a challenge. We suspect that she's on the spectrum, due to a whole mixture of issues with her.

She says that she likes black clothes, couldn't explain why. But, I constantly get comments from my mil that she should be in brighter, girlier clothes. Even though I tell her that dd is comfortable and that's what matters to me.

She absolutely loves wearing football kits and she does have a fair few of these in her wardrobe. Not just team ones, but plain ones from Puma, Nike and Adidas. But, there's times when a football kit won't really be suitable

As it happens, her team presentation evening is coming up in a few weeks and I want to find her something a bit smarter to wear. I was thinking maybe cargo trousers, black top and a black and white pair of trainers.

Where do parents of pre tween girls shop, and what do your girls like wearing please, because I'm really at a loss here. She hates any form of shopping and there's no way I can afford to buy loads and then send it back after a double vet visit for the dog this month 🤦‍♀️

I have a DD9 and we buy from a mix of places but H&M, Zara, River Island mainly. H&M has quite a big range, so certainly in-store can be a lot, but perhaps if you filter by age and colour before you show her, the choice will be less overwhelming?

Nothing wrong with black!

Dd8 is also struggling as many of the shops do ranges like 4-7 and 8-12 so she feels too old for the younger range but a bit intimidated by the older one.

She likes Zara. Mountain warehouse is often good too.

Mine wears leggings and long sleeve tops with trainers, or riding gear (which is basically leggings and long sleeve tops with boots🤣) Hoodie on top if it’s cold, gilet on top of that if it’s freezing! All attempts at anything else fall by the wayside so I buy colours that I know mix and match well together from H&M, Zara, Morrisons/Tesco/Sainsbury’s, Gap (now part of Next) and Trespass.
Party clothes tend to be leggings with a long sleeve top that has a few sequins on it!

H&m for dd9. I really like that they have adjustabe waists in the older ages, very useful. She is enjoying combats, flares and has a new love on large cardigans to chuck on over things.

Is sensory issues are a thing for her when it comes to clothes try Rare Birds. They are online and so black hoodies, leggings etc with really soft smooth fabrics, thumb holes etc. not cheap but good for basics and often have offers on

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions so far. I really appreciate it. I'm going to have a proper look through tonight when dd is in bed after football 😊
