My son has had this in his shoulder for over a week. HV thought it may be a bite but I'm not sure, it's not going.

It is hard, baby doesn't seem to mind it, has been more unsettled but is experiencing issues with tummy at the moment.

Bcg jab?

skkyelark · 22/04/2024 11:34

Yes, looks like the BCG reaction to me as well.

Thank you! He had it about 9 weeks ago, could it show now? C

So that would be the bump appeared 7-8 weeks after the jag? I think that's long than average, but my second daughter's took almost that long to appear (and then took an age to heal as well, but never bothered her). Given how it looks, where it is, and that he has had the jag, I'd be confident that's what it is.

Yep if your baby had the bcg and had it in that arm, that's definitely what it is. The site can take months to heal and can leave a lifelong scar (my dh has the scar).

Avoid using cream or soap on the site until it goes back to skin colour.

You can check your red book if you can't remember which arm they did the jab in.

I'm amused but not surprised at your HV for not suggesting the obvious. Some HVs can be such silly billies ime.

I remember people having these for years in primary, looks like a BCG mark to me. Mine only faded when I was well into my teens…
