I am on the hunt for a pair of hard wearing school shoes for a 6 year old who likes to scuff shoes..

We have tried:
Clarks
Matalan
Next
Asda
Sainsbury's
Lidl

The best so far have been Lidl! They have lasted since September but are now scuffing at the front and you can only get these at certain times.

So please let me know where to get hard wearing school shoes!

Surely this is normal and you just need to polish them . I don’t think there is such a thing as shoes that don’t scuff , that’s what polish is for .

fruitpastille · 25/04/2024 07:12

I realised after many years that patent shoes are much better for not scuffing.

I used to think Lelli Kelli were overpriced girly rubbish but they were the best shoes we had so I stuck with them buying each year till dd was a bit too old for the style. Switched to docs for older primary.

Agree.

What is she doing to scuff them? Using a scooter? That looks quite high for it to be typical use.

A polish will sort but she is obviously doing something to scuff that high which is fine but perhaps the activity could be restricted when she is wearing her runners?

Patent has held up better with my girls although my eldest doesn’t like it. I think you’ll just need to accept they won’t stay pristine. My child in parent shoes has shoes that look perfect. The older one in normal leather ones are scuffed but so do pretty much all of the kids in the class.

SkankingWombat · 25/04/2024 13:29

Scuffing the fronts like that is totally normal at 6yo, it's the sign of a busy active DC! It only becomes a problem if the leather is too thin or poor quality. That will polish right out with a decent tin of polish, good brushes and a little bit of elbow grease which you delegate to DH as one of his weekly jobs I'd much rather the scuffs than a sedentary DC.

She's probably kneeling or climbing. Don't restrict her activity FGS, girls have enough implicit messaging to stop, be quiet, stay in your lane. Girls should be scuffing their shoes!

Startrite do ones with a raised toe bumper, have you tried those?

MississippiAF · 25/04/2024 13:55

Lots of the Lelli Kelli styles have rubber around the edges in such a way that they result in much less scuffs. Especially in patent.

They are also excellent, hardwearing quality, and don’t collapse into themselves after a few months.

Unexpectedbaby · 25/04/2024 14:05

M&S here too!

I would love to get her kickers or docs but her feet are growing too quickly still and can stand the thought of spending that much.

Her m&S ones last really well though when others have literally fallen apart

Marblessolveeverything · 25/04/2024 14:11

@Arrestedmanevolence I was simply trying to find out if she should be wearing a different type or shoe or was she using her feet as a break because strangely i wouldn't distinguish by sex and tell them not to!

I did spend nearly a decade fitting children shoes but sure what would Iknow.

Honestly the attacks in here are I unbelievable.

My dds school shoes are from Deichman...she got them in September and they are still going strong.

FlannelandPuce · 25/04/2024 14:32

I have to recommend startrite especially for girly, butterflies and heart jewel type shoes. My daughter is very fussy but has worn this brand for years and when she outgrows them, thr shoes they are still pretty pristine. DH polishes them regularly (not me) so I guess they are looked after. They tend to have rubber around the front to protect from scuffs too.

Bigoldmachine · 27/04/2024 07:38

A lot of the M&S ones have a sole that extends beyond the front of the shoe, which means they scuff less.
