How often do you bathe your children?

Question. Is in the title! The reason I’m asking is because a friend said to me that the give their 4 year old a bath every night and was shocked when we said twice a week unless she’s got dirty from something such as playing in the garden . But in the meantime my daughter has her face and hands washed everyday and bottom etc with wet wipes everyday as she’s still not dry at night. I wanted to gauge whether I am the odd one, she is or we are all different? I was told by the gp years ago that bathing everyday for little ones as bad for their skin or is this just babies?

Kids are 7 and 10 and it's twice a week. DD has eczema, so bathing doesn't help

Will probably bath them more once the warm weather kicks in though

oldgreysquirreltest · 21/04/2024 01:37

My six year old has a bath every night, she loves it and it's a nice part of the evening wind down.

Picklesjar20 · 21/04/2024 03:31

Every 2 days usually.
My LO gets eczma, even a bath just with water can dry her skin out too much. If her skin is having a flare up then 2 times a week in an oat bath. But else every 2 days.

Although i do every day if skin is great and we have been finger painting or getting mucky.

2 year old every day at the moment as he's constantly in the garden and filthy. Also with a habit of putting his food bowl on his head... but if he didn't need one would probably be every other day. Think it's time to get him used to a shower

I have eczema. I can’t bathe every day because of it. Twice a week is totally fine!
my DS has eczema too so twice a week works for us.

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 21/04/2024 06:16

Three times a week plus a quick shower after swiming

Cuwins · 21/04/2024 06:22

Atleast every other day for DD (2)- unless she is dirty for some reason then the in between day I offer a bath but it's up to her, sometimes she says yes but mostly no. Only wash her hair twice a week (unless she has got something in it!).

menopausalmare · 21/04/2024 06:28

Under 8, twice a week. 9 and above, daily shower.

RhubarbAndMustard · 21/04/2024 06:50

13 and 8 yr old shower daily during the week but a bit more lax at weekends unless they've played sport then it's a definite shower after.

bluebird3 · 21/04/2024 07:05

When I had only one dc it was every night. Now I have two to bath it is every other day. We will sometimes do everyday if needed or skip a night if we are out.

WhatTheHeckNow · 21/04/2024 07:13

Every night.

OverthinkerTinker · 21/04/2024 07:13

Eczema here, daily baths would not help at all. Twice a week.

Readmorebooks40 · 21/04/2024 07:14

Once a week here for my two. My daughter has eczemea and the GP said too much bathing is bad for her skin. Also children don't really sweat (my two don't anyways). Maybe a bit more bathing over the summer if it's hot, sun cream etc. My little boy detests getting his hair washed too so it's always an ordeal. They always have clean hands, face, clothes, underwear etc. I have no idea how people in this thread have the time to bathe their children daily plus it's such a waste of water, electricity and products plus it's bad for the environment (that's my excuse anyway 😂). Twice to me seems absolutely fine. I think for some kids it just part of their night time routine.

mellongoose · 21/04/2024 07:36

2-3 times a week here. More in the summer.

OnigiriJones · 21/04/2024 07:38

In the summer every day. In the cooler months then every few days depending on what activities they had that day.

Shower definitely every night (also have a toddler). When my DS was a baby we bathed him a few times a week but since he started walking it's just part of his bedtime routine.

Same really
First child once a week till she was older.
Second child every day.
I was more confident and made it part of his bedtime routine
He loved it and naturally elder child ended up in with him as only a few years older and it was nice way for them to both wind down.

AuntieMarys · 21/04/2024 07:46

I did it every evening when mine were small. Part of our bedtime routine.

NCDAParent · 21/04/2024 07:55

My 2, 4 and 2, usually have a bath every night. Sometimes the 4 year old is too tired, so she just has a cloth wash. She gets her hair washed 2-3 times a week.
The 2 year old has a bath and hair wash every night because she goes to forest nursery so comes home with a layer of mud, dust and dirt everywhere everyday

SallyWD · 21/04/2024 08:53

At that age we did it every other day. I think it really depends on the child and how grubby they get. My son is now 11 and only showers about once every three days. He is always very fresh and fragrant. There's not even a hint of puberty yet so no BO. I told him that once starts getting sweaty he'll have to shower every day!

Superscientist · 21/04/2024 10:59

Once a week typically sometimes twice.
She's a lunatic after a bath and for ages we couldn't do a bath anytime near bedtime she would be awake for hours and hours after a bath

She has dry skin and is prone to rashes. We can tell the difference even if we have had a run of twice a week.

I had terrible skin and was tested for liver disease because I was so itchy. I reduced my showers from every other day to once a week and I stopped washing with shower gel and liquid shampoo. I use solid soap bars only washing sweaty areas. I use shampoo bars. I also now only shave my underarms once a month and my legs 2 or 3 times a year. My body is so much happier for doing so. The itching that plagued my teens and 20s has gone!

Feebs450 · 22/04/2024 07:18

I never really understand when people say they have to give young dc a bath every day because they get so dirty.

Ds3 is 6 and very active - often comes home with very grubby hands and face (and shins if he's worn shorts). He just has a normal hands and face wash at the sink, as we do twice a day anyway and then a quick flannel to the shins if needed. Gets him just as clean as a bath because all the dirty bits are being washed anyway.

mrssunshinexxx · 22/04/2024 07:19

Every night bath or shower they are 2 and 3. I wouldn't not wash myself daily so why wouldn't I wash my children.

Seagrassbasket · 22/04/2024 07:21

Most nights as in all honesty my DS gets a bit smelly if we don’t! It does dry his skin though.

Howbizarre22 · 22/04/2024 07:25

Young children do not need daily baths unless they’ve gotten especially dirty. But each to their own. If it helps them sleep. I do 2-3 times a week for dd6
