DS rolling and headbutting cot overnight, will he grow out of it ?

My DS 15 month , since birth has been a terrible sleeper. But for the last 10 days we’ve transitioned to 1 nap and oh my god he’s sleeping 10/11 hours all way through and it’s a dream. But he’s started being really ‘ thrashy’ in his sleep and constantly pushing himself up till his head touches the top. The problem is he’ll try and do it whilst at the top and he’s hitting his head very hard, it it happens in the middle of the night he screams and screams until he gets a cuddle. But if he does it around 5 ish we struggle to get him back to sleep.

If I pull him towards the bottom of the cot, he’s shuffled to the top within minutes. I know things in the cot are off limits but is this something he will outgrow ? He got a bad bruise last week from doing it and hate seeing him in pain everynight

thanks

My little one did this and even at 2, still fully rolls around the bed. She doesn’t whack her head anymore but I’ve noticed prefers to lie side ways rather than up and down.
It took her a little while to get used to the cot and would roll until she hit the sides and the top/ bottom
but it did get easier and she stopped hitting her head so hard and crying out.

My little 18mo is in a single bed since 10mo because of the thrashing around and he still kept going right to the top. I put his travel cot mattress at the top and secured it and he always ends up cuddled up to it. Maybe it's time to think about a toddler bed with a guard?

He's over one so could consider a thin toddler pillow, or wait until he's closer to 18m and see if still happening and then introduce?
We started using a pillow at just over 2 and it did help reduce the nightly tours of the cotbed 😅

My ds is 2.5 now and this didn't stop once it started around the same age when he needed more space. He now does a full 360° in my bed in four quarterly movements throughout the night. Sits up and lies back down sideways, then sits up and lies so his feet are at the foot and this goes on all night

They aren't like adults who stay in one position, not at all

Thank you all for your advice , gave me some things to think about. Pillow might be a good idea if he’s still doing it, as when he’s on my bed he absolutely loves to put his head on the pillow.

@twoandcooplease oh god my son is the same I seen him sit up and think aww no he’s waking up but he just does a 360 and back down instead , his head ends up both ways of the cot several times a night
